    Marine Automatic - Not popular?

I noticed that most people prefer the Marine Original over the Marine Automatic. Personally I prefer the clean look of the Automatic and the date window.

Anyway, I was just curious why people selected the Original over the Automatic? Is it the different movements? Is it the nostalgia of owning a hand wind watch? Is there a quality difference?

    Looking forward to your thoughts.

For me, it was the hand-wound movement (and the decoration contained), as well as a cleaner dial w/out the date.

It just depends on personal taste - they sell at STOWA both watches very successfully. Take what YOU want, forget about other choices.

I chose the Marine Auto because I like the clean dial, a hacking function, an automatic movement, and the elegant sweep of the second hand. The MO is actually more in keeping with the historic-marine-deck-clock and it has a more pleasing aesthetic re. its hand-wound calibre imho ... so it depends on what you want. They are both keepers and I am pleased to note that the Marine auto is hardly ever put up for sale in the Dealer Forum. While it may not be as popular among the forum members, it certainly has "staying power" among its owners. Bryan

Bryan, thank you for the reply. How accurate has your watch been?

I think I may get the Automatic because of the date window. I have a few watches that have the seconds sub dials or sub dials in general (i.e. chrono function), so the clean look of the Auto could add some variety to my small "collection".

I like MO partly because of this

I chose the marine orginal because there was no marine automatic with roman number
Seriously, I prefer the separate seconds hand like old watches (reminds me the Portugaise Jones, BTW). And as you can see the movment, it's much nicer without rotor.

Good point. Not having the rotor is nice....I just wish I could get a date on the MO.
