    Matte Marine Automatic

What do people think of the Marine Automatic with the matt finish, onion crown, and gray leather strap? I think it looks great in the photos but really wish I could see it in person. I wonder, for example, how matte the finish really is. Is it more a satin, or rougher like a Damasko or Sinn? I also wonder if it comes across more as a casual or even sport watch, or rather as a dress watch like the polished version (if indeed the polished Marine is even really a dress watch - not too sure where that one sits really either, to be frank).

Anyway, just curious to hear people's thoughts on it. All the more from anyone who might have seen it in person.

Ok. i liked it. Matte usually is more casual than dressy.

But hell ya, its different, and if you dont need dress watch and wanted a marine, why not>?

I like these a lot. I just wish Stowa would give us more dial color options, like dark blue, sand, brown, even green etc.

Goes perfectly with that strap. Very attractive watch, IMHO.

I would consider the finish to be more of a satin. The watch is beautiful. I first automatic watch was a Marine Original matte with a silver dial and I foolishly sold it a few years later.

Stowa sold a no date sterile dial Marine auto a few months ago. If it were a regular item I would be tempted to get one with the matte finish.

I'm very pleased with mine. Matt-satin finishing of the watch is still presentable in formal wear.

    Re: Matte Marine Automatic

As far as I know, all of the Stowa "fine matte" finishes are finished by hand - Mr. Schauer does much of this work personally. It is in the realm of "satin finish" and not like Damasko or Sinn tegmented.

This hand finishing is for cases like the new Marine matte, fliegers, etc - not the titanium matte cases like on Prodivers or T02/GMT/etc.

It is very nice in person and very different than what you'd find on Damasko/Sinn "ice-hardened" or "tegmented" finishes. Those are completely functional and obviously very tough - and while I like them a lot for what they are, they have none of the "personal touch" of Stowa's finishing.
