New strap for Antea 365, Suggestions?

    Hi,

I have a Stowa Antea 365 that I use as a dress watch. It came with a 20 mm black leather strap. Stowa, unfortunately cannot ship their crocodile strap into the United States. I really prefer a deployant over a buckle.
    • Who are the best makers of aftermarket straps that I should consider?
    • Differences between crocodile, alligator and cayman, which is considered the finest and why?
    • Will my deployant on my current strap be easily transfered or am I better off buying another with the new strap?
    • Black is an obvious choice, but brown, cognac or even a deep blue might look good with the white face and blue hands. Thoughts here or images to share?
    Thanks,

    Bob

Some of the more common ones are Di-Modell, Hirsch, Hadley-Roma, and Rios, unless you want to go with a custom maker. I have had good experiences with Di-Modell and Hirsch straps.

Try this thread (located with WUS's handy search feature): https://forums.watchuseek.com/showthr...ocodile+cayman

I don't know if this is true across the board, but it seems that Louisiana alligator usually has a larger, more squared pattern that appeals more to me than the tighter, more circular grain of some crocs and caymans.

All of the deployants I've used attach with a springbar or screwbar at one end and a snap or screw at the other. They are easily moved from one strap to another, as long as the width of the straps is the same. Remember to compare widths at the buckle end, rather than the lug end, of the straps.

There are tons of photos throughout this forum. IMHO, navy blue alligator straps tend to look really sharp on Stowas with the blued hands. Not an Antea, but this photo will give you an idea: https://forums.watchuseek.com/showthr...65683#poststop

Re: New strap for Antea 365, Suggestions?

    Hi,

The Stowa strap is a 20 mm to 18 mm taper. For a 36,5 mm x 9,2 mm watch what thickness strap would be proportionate. I would estimate the Stowa leather strap tapers from 3mm at the watch lugs to ~ 2 mm at the deployant. Some straps state their thickness and others do not. Here is what I have found so far in alligator straps:
    • Camille Fournet: 6.0-2.5 mm, 5.5 - 2.5 mm and 5.0 - 2.5 mm
    • Di-Modell: No information
    • Hirsch: No information
    • Rios: 6.0-3.0 mm, 3.5 - 3.0 mm and 2.5 mm constant
    • Sirtolli: 6.0 - 3.0 mm and 3.0 mm
I am guessing that I should stay at 3.5 mm or less at the lugs of the watch. Is this a correct assumption? Does anyone have thickness information on Hirsch or Di-modell? I am looking for either a deep blue alligator strap or a cordovan strap.

Additionally, does anyone know the maxmum thickness the screw in the Stowa deployant clasp will fit through? This is not necessarily and limitation, but I might gat an aftermarket deployant. Does anyone have experience between:
    • Axel Jost?
    • Hirsch?
    • Rios?
    • RHD?
    Thanks very much!

    Bob

I would think 3-4 mm at the lugs would be about right. That's an opinion based on photos only, as I don't have an Antea. But that style of watch calls for a thinner strap, IMHO.

    Another suggestion.

A german manufactory strap by Kaufmann.

This one I ordered for my Antea KS (in dark blue)
    http://www.kaufmann.biz/Alligator_matt_424.html
Now waiting 4 weeks for delivery...

The thickness is from 3.5mm to 3.0mm.

I have had very good luck using Stone Creek straps. Jeanna is very responsive and does a great glazed gator with deployant for a very reasonable price. I got the chocolate for one of my watches and she did a beautiful job.

I have my on the Antena 365 with white face and my choice would be dark blue croc strap with the deployment but when in doubt even a decent Hirsch basic black calf leather works too

Re: New strap for Antea 365, Suggestions?

    Hi,

I wanted to post some of the options that I have found in straps and deployants and solicit some thoughts.

    Straps:

Di-Modell with aero lining (considering the blue above or black or cordovan below)

Hadley-Roma (the burgundy-cordovan or Black colored with matching stitching)

Hirsch Artisinal London (Blue Matte or Black Matte)

Rios 1931 (Ocean Blue or Black)

    Deployants:

    Axel Jost DFI (stainless)

    Hirsch Pusher Buckle(stainless)

    Rios 1931 Ardillon Pusher (stainless)

    RHD (stainless polished or brushed)

My current strap tapers from 20 mm at the lugs to 18 mm at the tip. It is not clear that all of these straps do. Additionally, they may be thicker than what my Stowa deployant can reached through (only about 2 mm currently).

I am curious to your thoughts. The Antea is my dress watch and is mostly worn with a suit. While the concept of a colored strap is interesting, I am wondering if I might be better off with basic black. Additionally, I seem to be attracted to matte finishes to let the simple case stand out. Thoughts regarding matte vs. glossy finishes are appreciated. I have very little experience with straps. All of my other watches have bracelets.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Re: New strap for Antea 365, Suggestions?

Stupid me is now realizing that most alligator straps are probably too thick at the lugs for the Antea. I have identified some from Hirsch, Rios 1931 and Sirtoli that are thinner. Of the straps listed below, do any of you have any opinions regarding relative quality? The Stowa strap is approximately 3 mm at the lugs, do you think if I go thicker it will overwhelm the watch?

    Hirsch Artisenal (20x18mm):
    • London 4.0-2.1 mm thick
    • Charme 3.8-2.2 mm thick
    • San Remo 3.8 mm thick
    • Eleganza 2.0 mm thick
    Rios 1931 (20x18mm):
    • Fullcut 42 3.5-3.0 mm
    • Fullcut 44 2.0 mm
    Sirtoli (20x18mm):
    • Sirtoli Angelo 3.0 mm
    Thanks,

    Bob
