    New Strap for my Flieger

    Hello all,

I was hoping for some advice. My Flieger's band is starting to show it's age so I'm thinking about replacing it. I stumbled upon this site and really like a couple of offerings but I'm not sure if they would work with the Flieger:
Minus the Skull and lettering; just a plain strap:

Do you think this would work with the Flieger? I was thinking navy blue thread instead of the white to match the hands.

Also, how hard is it to swap out the bands? I've never done it, but I suspect with the proper tools it's doable? Probably a bit tougher with a thicker leather band?

I'm also open to any other recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Navy blue might look nice. Buy yourself a band removal tool and it shouldn't be hard at all.

    New Strap for my Flieger

To my sensibilities none of those work, too modern. The race style incongruent with a pilot. I prefer something more classic. Still experimenting myself but so far enjoying these, RIOS1931 Vintage and WatchGecko Old Chester...

Thats said to each his own, experimenting is good.

PS. Don’t even attempt without the proper tool. Cheap and easily accessible.

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for the advice, I really like that Rios1931, but for some reason that plain grey with a little navy blue accent stitching is calling out to me. I may wind up with more than one new strap because a black or brown strap in the traditional Flieger style is always a safe bet.

    This tool look ok?

JB - Deluxe Spring Bar Tool - Swiss | Jules Borel & Co.

    Thanks again.

For a strap you might consider a Rios1931 Typhoon. It has some IWC styling cues and looks nice on flieger style watches. It is well made and reasonably priced.

A tool with a fine (small) fork that will do both jobs and is a bit cheaper:

For about $4 more you can also purchase a wider fork to fit the tool and switch the forks out (they just screw out) depending on the strap you are changing.

Excellent - that’s a very nice strap. I placed my order with Patrik of Clover straps. I also ordered that exact spring bar tool http://www.julesborel.com/products/t...ints-and-forks

I’ll let everyone know how it all turns out. Thanks again for all of the help.

I have this Bulang & Sons Caramel Leather strap that I will try on the 90th Anniversary 6498 Flieger, which I have on order.

They also have several blue and grey straps. I have the one below as well. They make very nice straps.

I just ordered it yesterday, so it will probably be at least a couple of weeks. I highly recommend Bulang though. They pick great leathers.
