Question Question about duties and taxes on Stowa?

    Hi guys,

I am new to this forum and have a question for clearification. On the Stowa site it says that they have the option of taking care of customs and taxes if a certain price is paid and if the watch is discounted at 13.5% (VAT) the buyer will have to deal with customs and taxes on their own. My question is will I not have to pay for duties and taxes when the watch arrives in Canada either way? (I have purchase only one watch in Germany (Archimede) and I paid for duties and taxes when the Fedex person dropped off the watch.) Btw the watch I'm looking to pull the trigger on is the Marine Original. Its a beauty!!!

    Thanks

Yes, you have to pay for Canadian vat and tax.

But since you live ouside the EU, you don't have to pay the GERMAN vat which is 13.5%. Hence the "discount".

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I'm still a little confused does the additional 13.5% pay for duties AND Canadian taxes then? In Canada when importing watches we have to pay 5% duties + 13% Canadian taxes. Therefore, it would be better to pay the Marine Original nets price of 770 euros (+39 euro freight) and NOT discount the 13.5% to take care of the taxes and duties yourself. Am I reading this right:-S :-S O|

Re: Question about duties and taxes on Stowa?

    Hi Don:
If you pay the 'non discounted' price then Stowa will ship your watch and cover all the duties and taxes. They are set up w/revenue Canada and have an import number. The causes no headaches for you or I becasue things are cleared quickly w/FedEx and there is no additional bill to pay.

Of course you are welcome to receive the watch less the VAT and take care of clearing the watch through customs yourself. My experience is that this is a very slow arduous process.

I really appreciate the fact that Jorg and Regine went to the trouble of procurring an import number and take care of all the paperwork on my behalf.

Of course this is only my 2c worth.
