Question about no date dials with 2824-2 movements like the Flieger B

Does the Flieger B or any with 2824-2 but no date window have a middle crown setting, even though the date is not used? Can you damage the movement via changing the time between 9 and 3 at both am and pm, like my MA with date? The instructions only regard not changing the date during these hours, being overprotective I don't pull the crown out at all during these hours just in case.

I'm open to correction but I don't think you can damage the movement by changing the time between 9 and 3, it's only that you can't change the date between these times. Also you can change the date between 9am and 3pm they just tall you not to as if you haven't worn iot for a while there is no way to tell if it's am or pm until you roll past twelve.

The reason you can damage it is the movement begins to change over the date at 9 and if you interfere with this it can cause damage. I apologise if I am breaking any rules here but the date change thing is very well explained here Watchmaking: The Date Function And It's Restrictions - ORIS Watch Forum - Friends of ORIS

Hi and thanks for replying Nolimits, yes the instructions only regard time setting, but since the date setting is in the middle, it's quite possible to damage the date function, and therefore the movement, by attempting to change only the time during the stated hours. And the instructions do not specify whether or not you have been wearing the watch, it would seem the movement would be in play at both am and pm during these hours, either way.

I have a feeling the no date 2824-2 watches do not have a middle crown setting to avoid this altogether, but I was hoping someone could tell for sure.

    Btw nice little tutorial, thanks.

Presumably it's only the quick-set function - where present - that should be avoided on day/date watches on the run-up to midnight. Nothing to stop one winding the time on manually through midnight to advance the day/date if it's just a case of it having stopped recently...?

I would guess it doesnt have a date wheel at all. As for not changing it from 9am till 3pm, as I said it's just precautionary

The 2824 movement no date watches do have the center stem position.

Re: Question about no date dials with 2824-2 movements like the Flieger B

By the way, does anybody know how difficult it is to disengage the date mechanism in a 2824-2?
    The reason why I'm asking: I saw a no-date watch with a 2824-2 movement,
where the date mechanism was obviously not disengaged -- the watch was making a characteristic click
accompanying (the invisible) date change once a day.
