    stowa Flieger vs tourby Flieger?

i previously owned a stowa pilot and have been looking to fill the void since then. has anyone held or seen the tourby pilot? are they comparable? they are priced closely.

I'd also be interested in general comparisons between Stowa and Tourby. I was looking at both brands to fill my desire for the 6497/8 movement. Both brands had watches around the same price but I couldn't find much chatter about Tourby on the web and hence I have black MO on order. However, I'd still be interested in comparisons of finish quality, movement grades etc.

he is also coming out with a modified 6497 with center seconds as well. should be out later this year. i am curious as to the price.

what you get with a Stowa is pedigree. the company has been around for years and one of only 5 companies originally to make fliegers. not to mention the customer service is awesome.

    Hmmmm........

From memory there is a member on here named 'rik' that has a Tourby pilot. Search him out & his posts on it....

As for a comparo, I guess for pedigree & customer satisfaction of Stowa watches (pilots) provides a good indication, but from what I have heard Tourby has built up a good quality reputation of it's own.

    for the record:

It is Flieger (pronounced fleager) not fleiger. Mind the capital. German nouns are always capitalized.

Re: stowa Flieger vs tourby Flieger?

    Hi all,
I'm the proud owner of both Stowa's and Tourby's. I don't have a Stowa Flieger to compare directly, but I've got two of Tourby's 45mm Big Pilot watches.
I bought the brown dial one first and was so impressed with the fit and finish of the watch and the case that I bought another with a black dial and greenish C3 lume. The 45mm case is big, but not huge and I think it's pretty unique to Tourby. One sees the 42mm cases on a few different watches--ie. Wilson Watchworks, even RGM Grande Pilot, but I've yet to see this particular 45mm case elsewhere. Tourby is terrific to deal with and he usually responds to questions very quickly. He has a few exciting projects upcoming as well, if you read his site.
Here are a couple of photos of the 45mm's:

(the two outer are the Tourby's, the center is a 47mm Steinhart.)
