    Stowa shipping to the USA?

I have been contemplating buying another Stowa watch and wanted to see what I can do to not get charged the 16% VAT taxes since I live in the USA. I know Jorg will sell watches to the USA without VAT, then the buyer is responsible for Customs Taxes that need to be settled with Fed Ex. I realize that Fed-Ex can really clip you on customs, but from asking around it seems that the amount is no where near 16%.

Does anyone in the USA have personal experiance buying from Stowa and not paying the 16% VAT in lieu of handling Custom taxes themselves? If so, how did it turn out?

My Antea came thru with no duties/taxes from Stowa (99% sure of that) in 3 days.
So far the only time I've been hit for customs was on my U1 from SMS (Markus Tschopp), and I think that was 27.00$ or so.

Did you pay the EU VAT taxes though? The prices on the Stowa website include the 16% EU taxes.

Contact Stowa and they will remove VAT if shipped outside of the EU. At least, that's the answer they gave me as I'm waiting for the Prodiver dials in June/July.

IIRC, import taxes into the USA are only about 4%. That's very, very low compared to places like Canada where combined duties, taxes, etc., can total 22-30% depending on which province you reside in ...

Stowa do indeed remove the German taxes (or VAT) for customers outside the EU.

I payed 319 euro (shipping: + 39 euro - Fedex) for an Antea that goes for 350 euro on the online shop. Just send a email. Mrs Schauer herself will answer your querries. Really good personal service!

Since I live in Norway though, I will not be surprised when I recieve a bill for the Norwegian VAT, which is 25% of the purchase amount. Ce la vie...

FWIW, this is from Stowa's website...........

Fedex will charge the tax and custom directly from us.
(it is included in the price you have on your orderconfirmation - the price which is "incl.Tax")

    Hope that helps,
    Jack

That could be little misleading. In practice, if Fedex acts as your customs broker, they'll give you a bill for the duties/taxes which are applicable in your particular country. In the USA is very little or nothing. In other countries it could be significant.

I think that the statement above refers to the fact that Fedex charges in the EU would be all inclusive. Stowa did confirm that charges outside of the EU wouldn't be included in the charge on the website since they can't take into account each individual countries duties, etc.
