Tax and Shipping to the USA

I am trying to understand my total costs to purchase a Stowa and have it shipped to the USA. The tax situation seams to get confusing. I just want to make sure I know what I am paying for the watch, in total. Also, I have seen some posts that suggest your credit card gets billed at order and others 10 days prior to shipment. Given the May 2009 shipping date for the watch, is there any advantage to placing the order now? Thanks in advance for the help.

You do not have to pay at the time you order. You can wait and Stowa will email you asking for payment about 2 weeks before shipment. If you think the dollar will continue to weaken vs the Euro then that is one reason why you might want to pay now, but it is your choice. I ordered an Antea KS a few months ago for 414 Euro's and FedEx charged me $12.85 for import fees, which I think is quite reasonable.

My bill from fedex was ~$30 (for the seatime) shipping was ~39eu= $53.14us (today). You will generally wait now or... wait later. Good luck.

I paid Fedex $11, I am not sure why so low, I was guesing around $50ish. I had it shipped to my apartment on school campus so they may have given me a discount.

Americans, consider yourself lucky. Here in Canada apparently even after the 39 euros shipping the watch gets pounded by 18% in duties/fees. That pushes the price of a $695 watch to a $820 watch.

If you live in the USA & have your Stowa shipped by Fedex(which is how Stowa ships) you will pay shipping fees along w/ paying for your watch...only when they are ready to ship. You get your watch in a day or so after they ship, then about a week to 10 days later you'll get a letter from Fedex w/ a bill...US customs fees & a US$5.00 fee to fedex for them clearing US customs. Less than your state's sales tax.

another thing to keep in consideration are the fees to make the payment.

Bank of America wanted $35 for a money transfer & Paypal charged me 2% of the current exchange rate to pay in Euros (which was like $12)

I bought an Archimede last year and had the joy of shock and awe when fedex had a bill for me.

I did not know that you had to pay customs either.

Shipping covers shipping the watch to you. US Customs charges you a fee to bring the watch into the US, so fedex charges you this cost upon pickup.
