Thoughts on the Flieger Classic Sport?

    Hey all!

I'm interested in picking up a Flieger Classic Sport but I'm a bit concerned about the overall dimensions of the watch. I LOVE the overall design of the watch and really appreciate the 200m WR is has. However, it looks like its quite a bit bigger and thicker than the standard Flieger Classic. FWIW I have a 7.5in wrist.

Anyone with experience on the watch care to chime in on it with their thoughts?

Also, I've noticed the watch doesn't have a screw down crown, how does it maintain its water resistance without one?

    Thanks everyone!

I have one of the 90th Anniversary versions and I'm pretty sure that the crown does screw down. I will check tonight.
As regards the size, it is a nice fit on my wrist that is just under 7".

Thanks for the reply! I have seen pictures with both a screw-down, and non screw down 'onion' style crown which makes it seem like there's two options, or they've changed what they supply.

Here is my Flieger Sport. It's a few years old so the crown is different but it s a screw down and still should be. I have a 7.25" wrist.

Re: Thoughts on the Flieger Classic Sport?

I emailed Stowa and got a (insanely fast) response from Sarah about the crown: "The Flieger Klassik Sport comes with an onion crown. Even though it is not a screw down crown, it is waterproof up to 20ATM, due to a double sealing".

So it looks like at one point they were using screw-down crowns on the sport but have since switched to a traditional push-pull 'onion' crown for their current models.

That looks fantastic! My wrist is a bit larger than your's so that alleviates my concern about the watch being too large for me.

How do you like the watch? I've been looking at the FKS as a 'do everything' watch for myself.

You'll be fine with a 7.5in wrist. Mine is 6.9" but I have no problem wearing a 42 or 43mm case with a lug-to-lug of 50-51mm...Just got a piece with a 42.5mm case with 50mm lug-to-lug and it fits very well.

It's a great watch and as you can see from the pic above, it wears well...I think so anyway. I also have the 45mm TO1 and that wears fine too (though obviously larger).

I didn't realize they got away from the screwdown crown for the FKS. My TO1 is also 200m WR and has no screwdown crown...I wash it all the time too.
