Why is the Ikarus so unloved?

I’ve alwasy admired Stowa. A quality brand with legitimate history run by a small group of like minded people. Not to mention wonderfully priced. Browsing their catalogue last year I stumbled across the Ikarus. I hadn’t seen it prior and was wondering why. Naturally I searched forums and Instagram to find that it truly is a rare bird, and not for a lack of availability.

Anywho I put it on my want list and ended up getting one from my girlfriend for the holidays (she’s a keeper right?!?).

Anyone else here love this watch as much as I do?

Didn't realize it was so unloved. But I chose black over grey because of contrast

the ikarus is truly beautiful. i think the other stowa watches get more love in general because they fit the archetypal pilot or marine watch, so many people who are looking for those specific styles come to Stowa to buy them, rather than browsing the other Stowas in the range. This is why the partitio and divers don't get as much love either,

I wouldn't say unloved. It's just as you said, stowa is a quality brand with plenty of value. They have also different ranges of design that have it's own history and fans.

If wanted a flieger, most will get the flieger Klassik or variant for a first. In fact, Klassik has to be one of the best seller for stowa. Hence, i wouldn't say unloved, it's just people usually buy a flieger Klassik, or antea or Marine or Seatime/Prodiver first.

Ikarus are lovely, the grey dial have a certain characteristic on it. But to me, it is not as versatile as the normal black dial flieger, I can certainly see ikarus to be semi formal if it's pair with a nice strap or if it's 36mm, otherwise, ikarus to me is more of a casual watch.

Out of the many flieger variant I owned: Klassik, 6498, blue, black forest pvd, black forest ss, TO1, GMT, I never consider Ikarus. It's just I have too many other choices. So, unless in some cases where a person really really like how ikarus looks or a person already have other staples watch, then only they will get it.

It's a good looking watch, just not as popular as the traditional flieger style, with a black dial.

Love mine: it’s a classic in its own right IMO.

Plenty of love here. The Ikarus is the watch that got me to look at other Stowa models and I still chose it over a Klassik.

The Icarus was my first ever Stowa - some 14 years ago, and I still have it. Another 20 Schauers and Stowas have come since then, and a few of them (5) have gone.

The date window ruins it for me.
