    Win Some Lose Some

Tonight I was the highest bidder on the German ebay for one of the German Forum Limited Edition Anteas, when my mother called, with 2 minutes to go - my dad was in hospital for checks today, so I could not really rush her off the phone.

Got back and it had gone for 226 Euros - I would have bid more

Ah well, at least I can be sure it went to a loving home.

    HI Andrzej,

bad luck ! I hope at least that your father is doing fine !

I had a similar experience this evening: I was after a very nice vintage dive-chronograph on eBay and I really wanted that one - when all of a sudden the seller cancelled the auction without giving a reason O|

Well, I contacted hin about that, let's see what happens ...

    Andreas

I do find trying to buy on ebay a pain and would rather use the Sales Corners, but if the watches do not come up there, I like to keep an eye on the bay.

Dads fine - just regular checks after a heart attack

    Hi -

If I recall properly, you can't do that if there has been 1 bid. If there aren't any bids, then it's the seller's perogative.

What I do is to bid deliberately low (usually under €20) so that the seller doesn't have the opportunity to do this (exactly this happened to me as well, and the seller got all huffy when I asked: he had found a buyer...) and so that it doesn't disappear from my radar screen, so to speak. Then I use a sniper to nail it at the last second...
    well, the last 9 seconds...

Well, I was the highest bidder with 11 bids already in place - there must be a way to end an auction then as well ... the second highest bid was withdrawn because the guy cancelled his eBay-membership, just a couple of hours after I overbid him, also a strange thing when you are bidding for an item with still 5 days to go.

    Andreas
