    NH36a date wheel won't advance?

    Hi everyone,

I just did my first movement swap, and in my excitement didn't think to make sure my new (sourced from eBay) NH36a was running appropriately. All said and done, I did the swap and the date wheel won't advance, but I don't know if it's faulty or some error on my part. As far as I can tell, the floating gear jumps over properly and has all its teeth, so I'm not sure where the problem is. When rotating the crown to advance the date, it'll nudge the date, but then feels like I'm moving a stripped gear. Here's a video of the movement - https://youtu.be/4YQXwTk8mLA

    Any ideas?

Hey man, I know exactly what you're going through. I think I figured this out a bit back. Take off the c clip that holds the date wheel down. If it was bent when you were taking it off or not tight and putting enough tension down it will skip like you mentioned. Make sure it's flat and then slightly bend the arms closer together to create more tension. Keep me posted.

Great! This could be it, mine definitely went on looser, but I didn't think much of it assuming it's only there for retention. I actually had it apart earlier to try and get my flatter (success!) and the date wheel has more, but incomplete, movement now... so I think you're on to something.

I'm going to hold off on tearing it apart again until my new hands come in, but I'll definitely let you know.

Make sure the "day jumper" is engaged. See how it's done at 7:20:

Wasn’t aware of this, I just kinda spun the day dial until it felt like it popped into place. I’ll definitely check, thank you.

I checked the c-clip as mentioned above, it seems good. The movement seems to be advancing day/date normally with the hands and time, but the date still gets stuck when using the quickset.

Sorry, I got thrown off by the comment about the c-clip. The clip holds down the day wheel (Mon, Tue, etc.). The jumper holds it in place. These have nothing to do with the problem with your date wheel.

The date wheel (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) has a similar item called the date jumper, it needs to be manually engaged the same way. The "date disk guard" sits on top of the date wheel. You may need to disassemble and reinstall. Be careful with those plastic pieces, that's why there's a "danger zone" a couple of hours before/after midnight where one shouldn't try to manually change the day/date.

Full diagram is here. You can follow the linked video on how to install both wheels.
