Arnold & Son vs Breguet Haute Horology

Does anyone have experience with both brands that can speak to the finishing of them. From what I can tell both have great heritage and are well made I was just curious if there was any significant differentiation between them. They seem to be less talked about compared to VC AP and other higher end watches.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best,

    David

    Hi,

I have been looking extensively in those 2 brands in my search of a dress watch. While I think both have merits, they are very different in philosophy.
Breguet always has some great cases, whereas I found the Arnold and Son cases lacking finesse. The movements have to be compared on a case by case basis, as the degree of finishing varies with the price of the pieces. I do believe though that Arnold and son has an interesting architecture, whereas Breguet uses a lot of movements based on well-known F.Piguet architectures which are more common (but nothing wrong with that).

Now, Arnold and Son has some very large pieces, and while not thick, they are not as under the radar as Breguet. Breguet on the other hand has some fairly "boring" designs, and straight lugs that do not wear well on small wrists.

It's really a case of watch vs watch, and it's difficult to compare both brands directly. Just as it is difficult to tell who was the greatest watchmaker of all time between John Arnold and Abraham Louis Breguet, or who TRULY invented the tourbillon...

I am putting some pictures of both brands from when I tried them on at dealers.

Used to sell both, the Arnolds we had at the time, 2006 and 7, just didn't cut it for the price.

Rolling eyes Re: Arnold & Son vs Breguet Haute Horology

With that second one, they sure ruined the dial with that PR, looks like an afterthought.

I must be missing something. I don't see a power reserve display on the Breguet.

It is the 0-60 arc display on the left side of the dial. Between those two particular models, I find the Breguet much more pleasing, as it focuses on the movement in an integrated way. In the A&S, it looks like they just cut a random hole in the dial. But that is just my subjective preference, not an objective fact.

Actually retrograde seconds though, I think.
