Question Bulgari - BVL 191 Movement

I’ve got a replacement to my Octo Ultranero which was faulty even after a couple of Maintenance/Overhauls done by Bulgari in Swiss.

The new watch is Octo Roma 102855, which comes with the BVL 191 movement.
    https://www.bulgari.com/en-ch/products/102855-e.html

I do remember that my Octo Ultranero was with the same BVL 191 movement, but it was for sure with 26 Jewels, instead the new one now arrived with 27 Jewels…

I am curious – what is the difference?
Why Bulgari have the same movement caliber but with different number of Jewels?
    Can anyone explain?

Usually jewels are added where there has been wear issues, to provide better wear resistance. So it's likely an improvement based on seeing some long term issues with prior generations of the movement.

Shouldn't Bulgari then change the name or add something to the 'BVL 191' ? I mean why to leave it as is and make confusion?

It's not a whole new name because small changes create a new version of the same movement, not a whole new movement. Internally though, they probably have a new model number or dash number... like 191-2. But for public and marketing purposes, it's the same movement I guess. It would be nice if they added something to indicate the difference.

ETA have done this occasionally I think (though I don't know all the details)... the 2824 that's in most watches these days is the 2824-2. And the 2892-A2 came out as a change to the 2892.

Re: Bulgari - BVL 191 Movement

Here is the Official answer from Bulgari:

Here are some info on our BVL191 movement:
    • The BVL191 is a Bulgari in-house manufactured movement.
    • The first version BVL191 301 is mounted with 26 jewels.
    • The BVL191 302 is the optimized version of the 301 and was mounted on our watches in production since 2017.
    • The BVL 302 is mounted with 27 jewels.
    • The User Manual is mentioning 26 jewels for simplification reason, as we use the same user manual for all BVL191 mvt: the functions and technical advises are exactly the same for both mvt.

Nice - they even shared the version numbering they use with the 301 and 302 version. Neat!
