Chances of fakes ... (link provided)

    Hello all,

I have been lurking these forums for around a month now. I have been fascinated by some posts especially the whole restoration page that exists will all the tools of the trade, a marvellous hobby.

Anyway I cannot really afford a high end watch. I am returning home for a wedding from Sydney and have been looking around but it seems my tastes outgrow my wallet.

Generally I am after a lighter brown leather strapped watch, classic sort of look. Plain white face. Much to my surprise so few seem to exist, at least under $1,000. The first true watch I loved was by Georg Jensen at $1,500 but that is in the pipe line for now.

I am very interested in this:

The strap is a little dark but I like the overall look. The website has many other options but what are the chances of it being a fake?

The only store to stock this in the City (Sydney CBD) is under the Galleries (for those who know the area) and they want $580 – the actual Huge Boss website was getting rid of their stock and it was around $450. I definitely don't fancy paying either for what you guys refer to as a 'fashion watch'.

    Anyway...

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

    Thanks,

    BM

My advice would be to burn your money before buying that watch. You will get 0 value from a watch like that. Buy a watch from a company that makes watches...not cheap suits.

    Just my 2 cents

Swiss quartz movement usually means Ronda quartz movement for 8 bucks... The other 20% of the price goes into case/strap and the rest is the brand name. I'd rather wear a nice cheap Casio or Lorus than these fashion brands...

It doesn't matter how much the watch costs, it only matters if it makes your heart tick.

To answer your thread's question, I'd say the chance of it being fake from that site is pretty low. Who's going to go to the trouble of counterfeiting a relatively cheap fashion watch when you could be faking Rolexes?

Perhaps you could post a photo of the Georg Jensen watch you really liked, so that we could try to suggest a more affordable alternative, as opposed to trying to find an alternative to the alternative that you've identified.

Hugo Boss is rated "fashion", thread moved though.

Nobody said you can't get a high end watch under $1000. I'll admit, the search for us in Australia is a little harder, but not impossible. Take a look at Seiko and Citizen, they both have solid reputations and they both make watches in the style you like.
    Current Collection:
Rotary, Adina, Emporio Armani, Loyal, Swatch, Ingersoll, Cyma and others...

    The Wanted List:

    Realistically Achievable Grails:
    Breguet 5817 Marine Big Date
    Grand Seiko STGR003

Please don't consider spending $400-$500 for a Hugo Boss watch. As others have said here you can get so much more for your money by buying a name brand watch. Citizen and Seiko are only just two good, well known names. There are many, many others.

Hugo Boss has some nice looking designs (I have a couple), but I only get them at steep discount prices at liquidator outlets for $100 USD or less. The quality is ok for what I spent, but I think you are looking for more of a watch based on what you want to spend. Good luck.

Get Seiko SARB. Go to Island Watch and Jomashop and see what they have in your price range. Hamilton or Tissot might work. Orient also has some nice automatics around that price. I had a rich gf who told me always buy watches only from watch companies - she's rather see someone in a Timex over a Hugo Boss.
