What are your thoughts on Rossling&Co and Daniel Wellington?

    Hi guys,

After taking the dive with some mechanical watches, I've found that a Quartz watch suits my needs and lifestyle better.

Have you guys heard of Rossling&Co and Daniel Wellington?
I would describe these watches as affordable, with a fashion-forward appeal.

Very thin watch face, simple, and quartz. I personally think these watches look great.

I am very much looking into getting one of these instead, what are your guys thoughts?

    Unoriginal, overpriced, derivative designs.
If I wanted quartz and get an inexpensive clean watch...

The style you're speaking of is called Bauhaus. It was made famous quite a while ago and now some companies make very high end pieces (Nomos is a prime example). If the lower price bracket is where you're looking check out Timex, Rodina, and Tissel.

DW seems very popular with the university students here. After a G-shock/random digital, it's the next most popular choice.

From afar it has a nice clean look. Not sure of the build quality. Although for a 100 bucks off Amazon for a clean looking watch you can't exactly go wrong.

DW and Brathwait get heavily bashed. They absolutely are derivative, which makes unoriginal rather redundant, and that's largely the end of the story for some. They do market to the preppy/fratboy type, that's for sure. But about $100 at a variety of e-tailers...how wrong are you really going to be? But there are alternatives, such as this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SUP876-A.../dp/B00LI7P2KM

Gets you the convenience of solar...no battery change. Or go to Seiko USA, and use their product finder. Click Solar, and sort by price. Anything they're showing up to about $200-225 is likely to have a street price close to $100.

I don't see the appeal for a watch enthusiast. That being said, if you like it and you can't find anything better for the price, then buy it...
    Have a nice day.

Is there a reason people are automatically suggesting Timex, Rodina, Tissel, etc. instead of these new brands? Are these brands a a rip-off or something? That's what I'm not understanding

Re: What are your thoughts on Rossling&Co and Daniel Wellington?

Meh boring and unoriginal. But hey if you need a cheap Quartz then go for it. You'll definitely get nods from hipsters. Build quality of those brands are also meh. I rather buy a gshock. Or if that analog watch style I rather go with a mondaine.

To answer your next question. Those styles just rip off traditional watch styles. Look at nomos and junghans, they're known for that Bauhaus style of watch. Those are fashion watches, this is the wrong place to look for love for those.
