J-LC Master Compressor Memovox: Clunking movement / alarm

    Hey guys..

Just seeing if anyone else has the same problem here..

I have a 2007 J-LC Master Compressor Memovox and it rattles on the wrist. Obviously the rotor makes a noise but this is seperate to the oscillations.

Also, when the alarm is not in use (not wound at all) it chimes when you make any movement (alarm left at a certain time, say 7pm but not wound up.. when its 7pm on the watch, the alarm will chime with the movement of the wrist) as if the alarm hammer is not secured properly.. This could also be the 'rattle' when time is not near the set alarm time.

Has anyone had similar problems, or is this just common?

    Thanks in advance

    Scott

I have noticed that mine was pretty loud. Apart from the odd chime, there seemed to be a lot of rattling and scraping going on which I thought was something not entirely right with the rotor. I'm assured that it is normal for the memovox to be a bit noisy but, since the watch has now stopped and gone for repair, I'm waiting to see what it sounds like after fettling.

My 60's Memovox made noise, like the alarm hammer's were loose in the case. This was when the alarm crown was not wound and I was told this is normal.

Still waiting for it to come back. I'll chime in (ouch. sorry) when it comes back.

Update. I got the Memovox back today and, yes, it's still noisy when rotor-winding. I can't see that they'd have let it leave the workshop if that wasn't normal so I'm happy with it.

    Thanks for the update Gary..

So just to check, there is an additional rattle noise (seperate to the rotor) that is still present in yours after the service?

Also, does your alarm chime when: the time meets with the set alarm time but is not wound up? Just with the motion of the wrist?

I was told on the memovox movements (designed in the 50's), you cant actually toggle the alarm on / off. Which would mean, even if you dont wind the alarm spring, it will still chime with the motion of the wrist?

    Thanks again for your help..

    Scott
