    ST5 winding tips.

Hi guys and gals, we would like to take this opportunity to share a couple of tips provided by Thomas for winding our ST5 project watches.

There have been posts concerning winding problems and of the thirty-five that passed through my hands, two exhibited this stiff, very hard to wind issue. The problems were eliminated after using the methods described below. The rest wound beautifully and appear to be accurate so far. Here are the two handy tips:

    1) If you are experiencing the stiff, hard to wind issue please wind the watch anti-clockwise for a while, pull the crown out to the time-setting click and then turn it anti-clockwise for a few cycles. The stiffness should ease and follow the method below to wind the watch. Repeat the process several times if necessary.

    2) Wind the crown clockwise for half a turn, wind anti-clockwise and repeat until the watch is fully wound.

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but most of the winding issues can be resolved by simply following the instructions. Should everyone have any queries or further questions, please do not hesitate to PM me.

It's all new to me: half turn clockwise followed by how much turn anti?

Roughly the same, the motion should be smooth and is akin to the feeling of rubbing your thumb and forefinger together. Yesterday was the first I had heard of it too, although Thomas and his fellow manufacturers all use this method and teach it to their staff.

    Ed,

    Just received #64 tonight. Beauty.

When I wind both directions I feel a stiff grinding.

Funnily enough this was one of the things I spoke to Thomas about when I met him a couple of days ago. One of my watches winds stiffly as well and he said it can be adjusted during routine regulation. If it really bothers you, I'm afraid the only thing you can do is send it back to Thomas.

Winding was always fine with my ST-5 but setting the time was very rough on numerous occasions -

didnt have time to care about the problem - hoped it would go away after a while -

now i am going to see if these winding tips helps with my time-setting-issue.
