Smile Wake up everybody ! The new Airmans are on Glycine site !

    there :

    http://www.glycine-watch.ch/e/news/novelties.e.jsp

It seems that only the "Airman Double 24" is a real 24-hour watch, while the
"Airman SST 06" is a GMT.

So a warm welcome to a new 24-hour model !

Bof .... I'm a little disappointed !!! I find that crosswise dial initiative of the Airman 7 very cool .... But even if the "DOUBLE 24 is reconised worldwide by aficionados of 24-hour watches as being an absolute rarity" I don't like much the external shape of that double 24 .... Perhaps it's because I only can buy a Poljot and that I'm jealous .. But I don't think so !!!!

I'm amazed at how they've copied the shape and look of the original SST! If the "pumpkin" version (two-tone dial, orange bezel) can be had in a straight 24 hour version I'M THERE (I'll ask Werner if he can modify one for me...he did this for me when the first 12/GMT Airman 2000's came out).
I just sent Werner an email.
Seems the watch is also larger than the original.
Original was 42mm with 22mm lug, this one is 44mm with 24mm.

I think the SST06 and the D-24 are excellent .... the D-24 is a limited edition of 300 ... it might be tough to get one.

It will be interesting to see if a purist SST06 is possible.

Re: Wake up everybody ! The new Airmans are on Glycine site !

I just got email back from Werner at Falcon Watch. He's checking with Glycine into availability, prices, and the possibility of "purist" versions of the SST06.

I took the liberty of telling him the 3856.106 would be the best first choice to make a /66 (purist 24 hour) version. The 3856.106 is the one that looks just like the classic pumpkin

I'll let you all know as soon as I hear anything.

The D24 has good points and bad points. I like the hands on the SST06 better. I like the idea of a simultaneous three timezone watch, but it isn't a feature I need. For those who need it, this is a great watch.
However, I like the simplicity of looking at the main 24 hour hand for local time AND a second timezone (between dial and bezel reference)....That's how we're used to reading these types of watches.
The D24 would require different habits.
The main 24 hour hand would be read on the dial or bezel, while the blue pointer would be read on the dial and the red pointer on the bezel.
Thus, you need to "find the hand" that you need for the timezone you require, and remember which hand is for what. Not as intuitive or user friendly as the simple SST, in my opinion.
I'd be tempted to use this watch for three timezones in a way it's not designed to be used...
I'd probably use the main 24 hour hand for local and Zulu (dial and bezel references) and use either the blue or red pointer for the third timezone (ignoring the other pointer).
Come to think of it...that would be a better design. Just leave off one of those pointers!
    Sorry for the rambling post

It's the same movement as the Zeno 8524 RW ...

i.e. 2424/ETA 2893-2 but the case of the Glycine is smaller : 44 mm instead of
47 mm, which is still a tad large for my taste, and obviously, the shape of the
    case is totally different.
I find it very good to have a choice of brands, of sizes and of shapes but with
    the same feature : 2x24 !

Question Re: Wake up everybody ! The new Airmans are on Glycine site !

Pardon my ignorance, by why are some people saying that the SST 06 isn't a real 24 hour watch, but is instead, a GMT watch?

Given the 24 hour markers on both sets of bezels, it looks like a 24 hour watch to these ignorant eyes....

    Thanks,

Re: Wake up everybody ! The new Airmans are on Glycine site !

The SST06 is a 12 hr/GMT...Meaning that it has (in addition to the minute and seconds hands) a twelve hour hand and an auxiliary 24 hour hand.

A "purist" or true 24 hour watch does not have a 12 hour hand. All time-telling would be off the 24 hour hand (whether primary or second timezone).

I had hoped that the Double 24 would be the same as an Airman 2000 GMT only with two 24 hour hands...unfortunately I don't like the Double 24 in spite of the fact that for weeks I thought it would be the perfect watch.

I have just heard from Glycine that the SST06 will also be available as a true-24
