    11. 2014 Forum Project Watch - Design Thread

    All,
looks like we're entering the final design stage(s) for the 2014 Project Watch; several good ideas and suggestions have surfaced and some questions / options need be answered and discussed. Let's first summarize the things we already know or have decided on:

    03 - Watch Style: GMT
08 - Case Shape: curved edge with square dial
09 - Movement: Dixmont-Guangzhou DG3804B with independent, adjustable GMT hand
10 - GMT Hand (not window or disc)

Answers to some of your questions and suggestions:

    • depending on numbers, we plan to offer both a date and no-date version. For the latter, there will be an 'empty' crown position like the dual crown watch.
    • date versions will have the date window at the 3 o'clock position.
    • again, depending on numbers, we plan to offer at least 2 color options.

More things to discuss and decide:

    • width of the watch
    • size and shape of crown
    • dial finish and color(s)
    • solid- versus display-back (note: the movement is not decorated)
    • hands

Just to get the creative juices flowing …… several have suggested to design a dial similar to the 2012 WUS Tourbillion:

Why not go all out and take inspiration of the red Celadon Premier from our good friend monsieurxu?

We like to recognize forum- and project-member Dutchman72 who helps us visualize all our suggestions and ideas; showing here one of his most recent versions that seems to be liked by many:

Hope this helps focus the discussion and concentrate on the issues and decisions at hand and the next polls we should have.

PS - you may have noticed by now that we have closed all other threads (except registration) in an effort to focus the discussion and to make it easier for new members / late-comers to figure out the status of this project.

    Looking good.
Personally the red watch in the middle with its dial of elegant simplicity is a juicy thought for me.

Many thanks MHe225 and all. It means a lot to have my designs liked. If anyone has a design you'd like me to try, please just ask. I really enjoy doing them.

I love the textured dial. it's one of the reasons I pine so badly for the 2011 watch that came out of this forum.
