The “Time for Everyone” symposium held in Pasadena November 7-9 was an outstanding success. Approximately 300 persons attended including a large number of international participants. A big thank you is due the organizers, Mostyn Gale, Jim Cipra, Will Andrews and all the volunteers who helped make the symposium a success. The exhibit of Thomas Tompion clocks was outstanding. The Horological Information Exchange featured twenty-eight horological entities from around the world. Robert and Sue Gary along with Jim Chamberlain videotaped the sessions. Most of the taped sessions will be edited and then made available in coming months.

I believe a full exhibit of Thomas Tompion clocks will be coming to the NAWCC Museum THIS WEEK(!). These pre-date the Harrison chronometers. Tompion is considered the father of English clockmaking. This will be their first display outside of the UK if I understood correctly. Quite a plus for the NAWCC

Tompion is buried inside Westminster Abbey!

"The watch has to be surrounded by a history.
You need more than just a great design. You need to create an atmosphere around the product.
Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?
People need to be able to identify the watch with themselves. It's based on emotion." - Ralph Furter

    The display will include
    2 Sundials made by Tompion
The ONLY existing two tower clocks made by Tompion
Long case, lantern and carriage clocks.

The pieces are truly amazing, anyone that can make it should. The chance of seeing these timepieces ever again, by the "Grand Father" of watch making.

I think the watches will not come due to customs restrictions on tortoise shell.

The displays will be up and running this week, thanks to the truly huge efforts of Noel Poirier, Steve Humphreys , Al Dodson and Markus Harris who have worked like Steve a Dors making the display cases and lifting the Tower Clocks. We owe them a huge thanks.

The display is now up and open, it is remarkable.
    AND
We do have two AMAZING pocket watches on display built circa 1685.

This is the BEST of the Best
