Fitbit is buying smartwatch maker Pebble

    A story at engadget reports,
"Fitbit is buying smartwatch maker Pebble for an undisclosed amount."

This may signal the end of Pebble products.

You can read the story at engadget. --> Fitbit is reportedly buying Pebble

Dunno about "the end", but Fitbit aimed squarely at Pebble with the Blaze.

Actually, as I keep writing, I'm not sure what Fitbit expects to gain from Pebble's resources and IP.

Bit of a worry but the pebble won't self destruct if it goes through.

Thanks. That information deserves a shoulder shrug.

Citizen was ready to buy Pebble for $740 million a couple years ago -- more than ten times what Pebble is worth now. Gruber: "[Citizen] really dodged a bullet on that one."

Shame I think Pebble was one of the better makers and I bet the person who never excepted the big offer years ago must feel a right plonker now

Pebble confirms this. You can read about the results on the Pebble support
web site. --> What Does Pebble Joining Fitbit Mean For Me?

"As of December 7, 2016, Pebble is no longer operating as an independent
entity and has shut down regular operations."

"Active Pebble watches in the wild will continue to work."

    Unfilled orders will be refunded:
"Backers will get refunds for any unfulfilled rewards and add-ons."
"Kickstarter will refund eligible pledges by March 2017."

    Thanks,

Well that's pretty much the nail in the coffin for Pebble owners. No warranty anymore, no future updates, and no product support is definitely the end. At least I got a year out of my Pebble 2.

I wonder if they hope to eventually build an Apple Watch competitor. Nevermind that Pebble couldn’t do it on its own.
