I am considering getting a Worldtimer watch for my upcoming birthday. I travel moderately; so this is less about truly needing such a watch; but I like the complication and many of the dials are beautiful - and different. I suspect that others on the forum will get that. Also, I want something I can wear with a suit to the office (in rotation with about 5 other watches).
I love the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony, but at approx $36K (grey market); definitely out of my price range.
Have therefore narrowed down to two: the JLC Geophysics Universal Time and the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum, both in stainless steel. I tend to prefer the look of the JLC, which I also see as having history that Mountblanc lacks. And I suspect that long term, the JLC will hold its value better. On the other hand, at grey market prices, I see the Mountblanc selling for approx $3100 and the JLC for 4x that amount; and the difference is not inconsequential. And Montblanc is getting some real traction in the market.
Appreciate any help that those of you with more knowledge and experience can offer. I am really torn.
On a side note, my wife thinks the Orbis looks to thick. My sense is that most Worldtimers are on the thick side; so it goes with the territory. Is the MB thicker than most?
