What kind of functions would you expect on the new 2015 Rieussec ?

    Hi all !

As we know now, from the SIHH : Montblanc is working on a new version of the famous Rieussec caliber !

The new version is expected in 2015.

There are already a lot of versions on the market. Here are some samples :

Here above you have the most common complications : simple chronograph, date, day, second timezone, night & day indicator.

What would you expect now ?

IMHO, a split-second chronograph should be a good alternative.

Could we also imagine a GMT ? With a second timezone hand, the Rieussec already has a foot on the plane, no ?

    All the best,

    Olivier

Seeing this thread reminds me of how terrific these watches are. I nearly bought one before getting my EP instead. I still want to pick one of these up at some point, though.

With that being said, instead of adding complications, what I'd really like is for Montblanc to make a thinner version of this watch. Chronos in general are going to be thicker, but 15mm is pretty hefty for a dressy chrono like this.

How would a split-second chronograph work Olivier? I cannot picture it in my head how the spinning disc wheel would display the split-second indicator.

Thanks aid-watch for bringing this topic up to speed !

Well, George, we could imagine a second hand on the 5 o'clock sub-dial, no ? Yes, quite complicated indeed. But worth trying !

When we think about it, a minute repeater might be interesting as well. I like Claret's approach with the Kantharos : KANTHAROS | Traditional Complications Watches | Collections | Christophe Claret - you know, having a chime each time the chrono is on / off.

    Attachment 2541242

-> This creation from Christophe Claret certainly embodies a stunning blend of haute horlogerie expertise and high-tech precision. This mono-pusher chronograph with striking mechanism and constant force escapement asserts its own identity and reinvents the measurement of timing events. The automatic-winding chronograph's cathedral gong audibly chimes with each change of function. The latter, the acknowledged king of chimes, is visible at 10 o’clock and equipped with a patented system that avoids the gongs vibrating against each other.

    What's your opinion ?

But the chronograph hand isn't what moves on the Rieussec, it's the dial. I can't see how they could do split seconds with a moving dial disc.

Minute repeater would be interesting, but wouldn't they restrict it to the Minerva pieces? Perhaps not.

Re: What kind of functions would you expect on the new 2015 Rieussec ?

Of course, it would have to be done the other way. For instance, the left dial is a split-second dial, running back to zero when the pusher is pushed - for a 1 mn count, for instance. The other sub-dial would count the time above this minute. A central hand would be devoted to the minutes, on the main dial.

Can't tell about the minute repeater. I just love Claret's approach. I have absolutely no idea of how it could fit into the Rieussec !

What would you think of a QP ?

I would like to see a world-timer, although they're already planning another world-timer alongside the current hemispheres model, so I doubt it'll happen but I still like the combination of world-timer and chronograph. Failing that I'd like to see an annual calendar or a manual movement with a power reserve indicator.

I do like the annual calendar idea, as well as the power reserve indicator. Might be too much indications to gather them all on a same dial, but maybe two models ?

We'll cover the SIHH on Monday (19) and will bring back a lot of pictures....
