Lightbulb 000A - Project THOR – FAQ Thread - READ THIS FIRST!

PROJECT THOR HAS BEEN RESTARTED IN AUGUST 2016.
Due to that, all you need to really read are threads starting with a number, where 000 is reserved for sticky posts and then 999 is reserved for General discussion thread and for any off topic threads that might eventually open.

Please read the following FAQ thread before posting in the Project THOR sub-forum.

The purpose of this thread is to familiarize WUS members with Project THOR and to provide you with the information and rules that are specific to this watch design project.

We strongly encourage everyone to check the Project SUMMARY and What's Happening Right Now? posts of this thread on a regular basis as they will be constantly updated with a synopsis of everything that will and has happened in the project to date. If you are new to the project, the Project SUMMARY is the quickest way for you to get up to speed and find answers to your questions before you ask them.

    Lightbulb What is Project THOR?

Project THOR is a community project that is only open to Watchuseek (WUS) members. Participants in the project work together with a goal to create a unique design that will be manufactured for them by Steinhart Watches. This watch, which will be limited to a production run of 111, can only be bought through the Steinhart forum on Watchuseek and will be gone for good once it has sold out. It will never be produced and sold to the general public.

Lead manager for the project is CzechMate, who will handle project organization, communication, planning and all of the project data. Among his other tasks, he will be looking after the voting process and its tabulation. Second member of the management team is ccapri, who is the project’s design adviser and will be drafting the watch’s design as it progresses. ccapri is solely responsible for all design decisions an he is the one to have ultimate word in case of any design related dispute.

Re: 000e - Project THOR – FAQ Thread - READ THIS FIRST!

The purpose of these rules is to facilitate the efficiency of the project, its smooth operation, and to ensure the cooperation of everyone who participates in it. Project THOR will be strictly governed by these rules: It is important that you read, understand, and agree to these rules – your continued participation in this project is an acknowledgement and acceptance of them.

    1. GENERAL RULES

1.1 First and foremost, all WUS rules apply to and supersede those created for this sub-forum; if you have not read them yet please do so now!
1.2 With the exception of the GENERAL DISCUSSION thread, only registered project participants may post in this sub-forum.
1.3 For the sake of organization and continuity, participants may not create new threads in this sub-forum. Please use the most appropriate thread when creating a post, or the GENERAL DISCUSSION thread for comments that do not directly relate to the subject of an existing thread.
1.4 Unauthorized threads, or posts created by those not registered in the project, will be deleted without further explanation.
1.5 Project managers have the right to exclude anyone from the project who is not following rules, causing disputes, or is behaving in an otherwise counterproductive manner. At all times, as per WUS Forum rules, project participants should remain respectful of each other and the decisions being made.

    2. PROJECT MANAGEMENT

2.1 Do NOT contact Steinhart directly with anything concerning this project – unless of course it has something to do with personal shipping or payment information. It is the responsibility of the project team to liaise with Steinhart, so please address any concerns or questions to a management team member.
2.2 The two project managers have the right to make final decisions concerning any aspect of the project and their decisions are FINAL. Such decisions must be unanimous and made public. If a unanimous consensus can not be reached a public vote concerning the matter will be declared.

    3. PROJECT PARAMETERS

3.1 This project will only commence once there are at least 50 registered participants.
3.2 A maximum of three watches may be purchased by any one participant – providing they have a legitimate reason to do so (e.g. for family members or friends). Such allowances do not give anyone additional votes – only one vote will be allowed per participant regardless of how many watches they have registered to purchase.
3.3 Project managers may, if it is deemed to be for the good of the project, alter the project’s structure. These changes are limited to the timetable of the design and voting process, and not to the voting system itself. This rule provides project managers the flexibility needed to keep the project running smoothly and resolve unforeseen problems and unexpected delays, which can include allowing for holidays or busy periods at Steinhart.
3.4 The watch designed by this project may only enter final production by Steinhart once all 111 available models have a commitment to be purchased. This commitment in terms of the project’s participants will include a non-refundable – but transferable – deposit.
3.5 Until a project participant has paid the deposit for his watch, it will remain the property of the project and can be reassigned by the project managers to another participant. The purpose of this rule is to weed out those who are not fully committed to the project or are not fulfilling the financial obligations of participation.
3.6 Once the project has concluded and the final design has entered production, a time limit for the full payment to Steinhart will have to be respected. Those who do not pay for their watch within this time limit may forfeit the watch and their deposit. Please do not commit to the project if you can not afford to pay for your watch!

    4. VOTING

4.1 Every design phase of this project will be decided by a discussion and vote of registered participants. Only those who have registered to be a part of the project can vote.
4.2 The single transferable vote (STV) system will be used to conduct all votes (see HOW DOES PROJECT THOR WORK? for more information).
4.3 Failing to participate in three votes may result in a person’s exclusion from the registration list. This is a project for active participants, not those whose only interest is to sell a LE watch for profit.
4.4 Only in the event of a dispute will a vote be arbitrated by the project managers, who if required, will make a decision in the interest of allowing the project to continue moving forward.
A design element that wins the majority of the votes (>51%) will be considered as having been accepted upon the completion of a vote. No arguments or discussions against the winning vote will be allowed.

Re: 000e - Project THOR – FAQ Thread - READ THIS FIRST!

Project THOR is open to any member of WUS; however, to participate in the project a member must first become a registered participant by following the instructions posted in the REGISTRATION thread. These instructions must be strictly followed or they will not be included on the registration list. This is a critical condition necessary for the efficient operation of the project.

When the registration list if full – there are 111 openings – we will create a waiting list of members who are willing to replace anyone that drops out of the project.

Since the result of this project is a complete unknown at this stage, WUS members who wish to become a registered participant must accept that the final design of this project watch may turn out to be completely different than what they were hoping for. With this in mind, we respectfully ask that only those who are serious about this project, and who have some flexibility in their expectations, ask to join the project.

Once a member has become a registered participant, they must – as a bare minimum – participate in the voting that will be conducted to determine the design of the watch. If it is found that a registered participant is not active in the project he risks being removed – without further notice – from the registration list and replaced by someone from the waiting list.

The project (and the watch’s design) will unfold through a series of design discussions, each introduced in turn by the project managers. Each design discussion will deal exclusively with a particular element of the watch (such as the case size for example) and that element will be open to discussion for a designated period time. Once the discussion period has expired a vote, which gives participants a choice of the options reached from the discussion, will be held. The outcome of the vote will decide which exact option will be used for the final production watch.

After each vote result has been posted, those who are unsatisfied by its outcome have two options: They can either decide to leave the project, or they can accept the result and continue on. There will no option to debate a vote result or to repeat it. If a participant does decide to leave the project we would appreciate that he immediately notify a project manager so his position on the registration list can be given to the next person on the waiting list.

All voting will be conducted using the STV system, which allocates a person's vote to their most preferred choice, and then, after that choice has either been won or eliminated, that vote can be transferred to other choices according to the voters' stated preference. This is an excellent system, one that we used to great success for the last Steinhart project watch, as it allows you to rank your vote in order of your preferences. In other words, if your first choice doesn't get enough votes from others, your vote automatically rolls over to your second, and if necessary, third choice. You can search Wikipedia using “single transferable vote” if you would like more information on how STV works.

Every project participant should be aware that they will be obliged at some point during the design process to pay a deposit on their watch. The amount of the deposit has yet to be determined, but as for timing you can expect that it will be required toward the end of the design process. This way no one will be have to pay anything without having a good idea beforehand what the final design will represent.

Of course once the final design has been decided, and the production process is underway, participants will need to pay for their watches in full. As with the deposit process there will be deadlines for everyone to make their payment. We will not have time, nor should we be expected to chase individuals down for their payments. Participants who do not comply with the financial obligations and terms of this project will be removed and replaced.

Finally, we ask that you please read all the threads and posts in this sub-forum carefully. If you have any questions, suggestions, requests or complaints that aren't addressed by an of the existing post in this sub-forum, they can be made by contacting the two project managers directly through the email addresses that were provided to you during registration process. Do not expect a reply if your question is already answered by the information provided in this FAQ thread or in an existing design thread. We will do our best to answer emails sent to us within 48 hours.
