Off Topic post OLD THREAD - Design Thread 12: The Name - from 11 to 3

In this thread we will further discuss the names that made it to the semifinals. Here is the list:

    Advancing from the group 1:

    1. Phantom
    2. Aurora
    3. Cockpit and A.C.W.

    Advancing from the group 2:

    1. Valkyrie
    2. Thor
    3. Blackstar and S.S.W.

    Advancing from the group 3:

    1. T.H.O.R. (Taktische Hand-Uhren für Observation und Reconnaissance)
    2. SR-71 Blackbird
    3. Meteor

Now I would like to ask authors or supporters of every name on the list to start campaigning for your name. In order to make it very easy to read, please follow these simple rules:
    1. if you want to explain why some name is the best one, start your thread with: "WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR XXXX" (anyone can post, not just the author of the name)
    2. if you want to support a name and don't have anything new to add, please only LIKE respective post, do not repeat what has already been said
    3. if you want to explain why some name is not a good idea, please start your post with: "WHY XXXX IS NOT A GOOD NAME"

In the end, I will write a short summary of most liked posts and include it in the next vote form.

THANK YOU AND LET THE DISCUSSION BEGIN!

Good work CM! I've got one of mine in each - the result of spamming the board with suggestions no doubt! - so will have my work cut out. I'll put together some "promo" material in a bit.

    Cheers,

I would like to add, that everyone can post a "WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR XXXX" post, it is not exclusive for authors at all...

Why Phantom is not a good name

Phantom Men's Black Pilot Wrist WAtch A Dial

I Have to say that the shortlist is a disappointing one for me. It will be a case of going for the least worst option in most cases.

I won't say too much about individual names as this more than anything else is just a personal preference, but to my preference there are some really uncool, tacky, terrible options there. They won't stop me buying, but I may never use the name!

Also Czechmate, you may have done this, but if not, is it worth running these options past Steinhart to make sure they are content? Their name will also be on the dial and there may be reasons why they would not like some of them. Copyright being one, but there may be other associations they may not be happy with.

Why Phantom is not a good name (II)

It seems to be a popular watch name. There is also a Lew & Huey line of Phantom watches - Lew and Huey Phantom, Getting Ready to Take Flight - WristWatchReview.comWristWatchReview.com

Why SR-71 Blackbird is not a good name

SR-71 Blackbird is a registered trademark of Lockheed Martin Corporation, including for international usage. See https://trademarks.justia.com/786/74...-78674170.html
which states it covers "Precious metals and their alloys and goods in precious metals or coated therewith, not included in other classes; jewellery, precious stones; horological and chronometric instruments." I added the emphasis.

    It specifically covers
"Goods and Services Jewelry; Watches; Wrist watches"
    Again, I added the emphasis.

By the sounds of things, we would have to abbreviate that option to simply "Blackbird", such that it is no longer a reference specifically to the SR71.

I sadly feel the same. I was really hopeful that acw111 would make it! Acw alone is a little boring. Thor sounds like an easy choice since it's code name for us now. Not super keen on the others..

Re: Design Thread 12: The Name - from 11 to 3

I think it will be good if we can pick a name that resonates with the design clues. It will help people to relate to the watch / the design.

In that sense, it may be easier to choose a name that has physical forms like Phantom or Blackbird, but currently it is not a wise approach because of the patent.

Now I have no idea which one to vote...
