Re: Design thread 14 - The Limited Edition Plate

Here is what JSal has already said on the topic in another thread:

I don't know if this was going to be a planned part of our design or was just going to be left to Steinhart to create.

But I would like to put the matter into our hands so we can design this feature.

A while back I purchased a very rare and highly sought after Limited Edition Steinhart forum project watch. The Nav.B Chrono, MARK II created by the Breitling Source forum members and limited to 20 pieces worldwide.

Since this watch was produced in 2010 and I was not a member of that forum I purchase it second hand.

One thing I noticed is that it did not have a limited edition plate that usually contains the name of the watch and the Limited edition serial number. So I figured it fell off and was missing. The person I purchased it fron was not the original owner and he said it was not there when he purchased the watch.

So I went on a mission to find a picture of what the plate looked like so I could have it duplicated. I searched high and low but could not find even one picture of the box of this limited edition that contained a plate. The several that I found also seemed to be missing. My assumption now was that since there were only 20 pieces made and I located probably a third of them and they all were missing the plate that maybe there was never one included with this limited edition.

So I decided to create my own. I used the certificate of authenticity and the writing on the watch along with my own ideas to inspire me to create the perfect LE Plate that was worthy of this watch.

So instead of hoping and taking a chance that Steinhart creates and includes one, I say we design one ourselves. We will need someone with good photoshop skills to assist us if we use any graphics. If it is just text then it will be easy as that is how I created mine.

I'm going to post mine below and also several others from other Steinhart Limited Editions to give you an idea of what is possible. If this turns into a phase then maybe CzechMate can have my post here moved into a thread of its own.

This is the plate I designed and had made for me by a Trophy store for $15

    Great idea.

I like how the 'limited edition' text is in script.

Perhaps the remaining text for our watch could use the same font style as on the dial and/or case back?

Re: Design thread 14 - The Limited Edition Plate

I'm going purely selfish on this one. When I get any watch and the ACW111 () will be no different, it comes out of the box, on to my wrist. When it's not on my wrist it will live in my watch box. It's own box will go into my wardrobe and will only see the light of day when I sell it. ( I have NEVER sold one of my watches!).

So I would only be interested in a plate if there was money left in the budget once we had done everything else, it would literally be bottom of my list.

I think that's a good and completely fair point. I have no idea how much these things cost, but agree that, as much as I'd love a plate, I'd not have it at the expense of something else on the watch itself.

That said, if we did have a plate, what about an engraved pic of the man himself (ahem...assuming "ACW" wins!) or his engine? Think I've seen something similar on some of the LE Nav-B plates, with an outline pic of a pilot.

Might be difficult to do well though.

    You guys crack me up..

Ok.... let's not get penny wise and dollar foolish here.

First of all, I paid $15 to have this made (as it states above) and that was for a One Off creation.

To make 111 of these the cost would come down considerably. I'm guessing $2.50 per plate. So I wouldn't start whining over budget on something like this.

While some of you don't use your limited edition box, many of us do including me.
If I have a limited edition watch, I placed it back into its own box after each use unless I am wearing it on consecutive days and even then the Limited Edition box would be out so I may even put it back in the box for the night.

And lastly, Mr Steinhart has already told us that he will be including (at no charge to us) the Deluxe Limited Edition Kit which includes a Piano Lacquer Deluxe Wooden Box, Strap Changing Tool, and Extra Strap. It will most likely include a limited edition plate. If someone remembers where the post was back in the beginning of the project it might even say he is including the plate.

That's a great idea Baldrick. Just keep in mind that this plate is restricted to a size of about 3" x 2". I will measure mine because I made it at about maximum size without looking ridiculous. We need to leave a little bit space around the plate.

Yep, don't disagree. If there is money left, yes, if there is anything else to do, no. As I said...

A simplified outline engraving of his engine is a great idea. It is something that generally wouldn't be recognisable to anyone except owners of the the watch.

To be honest I don't use my original watch boxes that often but if it is going to be as JSal says its almost too nice to hide away and the cost would be minimal in relation to everything else where getting. Count me in.
