Pen OLD THREAD - Vote Thread 6: Case Material & Finish

Design Vote 6: “Case Material & Finish”

    This vote is now closed.

The winner of Part One of the vote was option 2 (Stainless Steel Case - DLC finish).
The winner of Part Two of the vote was option 3 (Media-blasted).

Full results, including a list of participants who received a strike this vote for non-participation can be found in post 77 of this thread.

    Original post text:

We've already decided on the case that we’ll use for Project THOR, but now it’s time to decide which material it will be made from, and also which finish(es) it will receive.

The next vote will consist of two parts. In the first part there will be SIX (6) options that you will need to rank from your most favorite, to your least favorite choice. The first part will decide the case material, and if desired, a final finish for the case.

Here are the options that will be presented to you in the first part of the vote:
    1. Stainless Steel Case - No final finish.
    2. Stainless Steel Case - DLC (black) finish.
    3. Stainless Steel Case - PVD (colour to be decided later*) finish.
    4. Bronze Case - No final finish.
    5. Bronze Case - DLC (black) finish.
    6. Bronze Case - PVD (colour to be decided later*) finish.

*Note: In the event that PVD wins the vote, a new discussion and vote will be created to choose an exact colour.

The second part of the vote will determine the primary finish that will be applied to the watch case. As was made clear in the design discussion, this choice will have a direct effect on the appearance of the final finish (PVD or DLC, providing one is used). The second part will consist of three (3) options, which will also have to ranked from first to least favorite.

Here are the options that will be presented to you in the second part of the vote:
    1. Brushed (a matte look on its own – would create a semi-gloss DLC finish)
    2. Polished (a glossy look on its own – would create a smooth and glossy DLC finish)
    3. Media-blasted (a textured matte look on its own – would create a flat, matte DLC finish)

Finally, here's our predictable reminder that this thread is NOT for the continued discussion of the case material and finish(es). Please use the appropriate Design Thread for such posts. This thread is strictly for comments concerning the vote itself – or for anyone who is experiencing problems with the voting process to let us know.

Online vote forms will be sent out to everyone over the next 24 hours (by 3 May).

This vote will run for SEVEN days (from 2 – 9 May), or less if all eligible votes are received before the end of the voting period. On the completion of the vote the results will be tabulated and posted in this thread and in the project summary post of the FAQ thread.

IMPORTANT! This vote is mandatory and WILL count against your participation count in the project.

The Usual Preamble Concerning Voting (please read – at least once):

Over the next 24 hours a vote form will be sent to the email address you used to register for the project. Please look for this email, fill out the form completely – and accurately – and then submit it. You will need to use the Unique Identifier (UI) number that was sent to you in a WUS PM by CzechMate when you first registered for the project. Please contact CzechMate if you do not receive your vote form by 3 May at 21:00 GMT (and after you've checked your spam/junk folders).

A sub-theme that receives the majority of the votes (>51%) will be considered the winner.

All voting for Project THOR will use the STV system, which allows a person to rank all options in order of their preference. In other words, if your first choice doesn't get enough votes to win, your vote will automatically roll over to your second choice, and if necessary (and applicable), your third choice and so on. This is an excellent system, one that we used to great success for our last Steinhart project watch. We suggest that you search Wikipedia for “single transferable vote” if you would like more detailed information on how the STV works.

Once the vote has concluded, and the results have been posted, those who are unsatisfied by its outcome have two options: They can either notify us that they wish to leave the project, or they can accept the result and continue on. There will no option to debate a vote result or to repeat it. If you decide to leave the project we would appreciate that you immediately notify us so that your position on the registration list can be given to the next person on the waiting list.

    Just voted.
    Smooth process as always.

    Thank you Uwe + CzechMate.

Initially I was a bit worried about the layout - There are so many combinations and there would be two votes in one page.
However, when I went through it, it is really clear and (for me) the options are are arranged quite fairly.
    Well done

    Smooth organisation.

What's with you both Uwe and CzechMate?
You keep getting better with options layout and voting and everything as the project gets tougher.

How don't you guys get confused at all ever. Such clear project leadership is a dream I am sure for many projects. Thankful for being a small loose screw of this project lads.

Edit: I am the loose screw I meant.

Thank you all! It is a pleasure and a privilege!

We just try and read the discussion thread and synthesize the correct vote form and options, that's all...

BTW, anyone noticed the theme picture at the top of the vote form? Hope you all enjoy World Ice Hockey Championship!

You can buy watches but you can't buy time.
