My first-generation Watch after a dip in a hotel pool.

I regularly rinsed it off in the shower for close to two years without any problems, too.

BTW, I think all the naysayers about the AW's water resistance don't suspect that Apple learned from the sixth-generation iPod Nano.

It lent itself to being a wristwatch pretty readily -- Phil Schiller even said, "Many of us at Apple use them as watches," when they showed the revised version halfway through its cycle -- but a big knock against it was the fact that it just wasn't water resistant at all. I realized as much the first time I washed my hands while wearing mine on the strap you see here.

It was a great tiny iPod, but not a great wristwatch. It was superseded by the taller Nano right at the same time the AW's development got serious.

I do neither, due to poor water resistant of my other watches.

Don't ask me for pics of my AW in the shower, though. ;P

I've avoided wearing the AW in the shower based on the warning they offer about soaps and shampoos potentially degrading the some of the gaskets. Forget how that was phrased exactly. I doubt that's much of a risk, but it stuck in my mind anyway. Otherwise, I think I would trust the water resistance to be as advertised.

I've taken this in mind, and I'll clarify what I mean by showering with it --

(again, no pics or video of me showering.. lol)

I wear it long enough to shampoo my hair (the first thing I do -- top-down, just like a car), then once I've rinsed my hands clean, I rinse the watch itself until it feels squeaky clean. Then I put it aside, outside the shower, and finish washing myself. Then, after I'm done, I wipe the watch dry with my towel.

Same thing I do with my other watches, actually. The watch doesn't get very much soap, if at all, and gets rinsed clean right way even if it does.

Going back to my second post -- my older iPod Nano obviously couldn't handle this much water, and I was also nervous about it getting splashed while simply washing my hands in the restroom. I'm willing to bet that as soon as Apple saw the popularity of third-party clip-on straps to wear the Nano as a wristwatch, they realized how important it was going to be to make their full-blown smartwatch at least splashproof. They (including Apple's senior staff) also know what makes for good traditional watches, as many of them are watch collectors themselves.

Since you can expect most watches to have reasonable water resistance, you can expect the same from the AW, especially from the Series 2 forward.

Ive taken it swimming in the pool at the gym I go to. One of the things I was specifically looking forward to was the water resistance and swim fitness tracking. It hasn't disappointed.
