Watchuseek covered the new novelties during Basel show but the focus was on the amazing Anchor Tourbillon and Stranger series addition. We had a closer look on the innovation of FreakLab as well as Marine Gold diver.
Freaklab pushes the limit of limit of innovation with date function and shock absorption. Freak was the first watch to incorporate a silicium escapement in 2001, a diamond escapement in 2005 and the Dual Ulysse escapement the same year. The new FreakLab features the date at 4 o'clock. On the technological side, it is for the first time equipped with the UlyChoc safety system, a new generation of shock protection.
On the new FreakLab, the entire floating upper bridge has been completely redesigned. First, the gear train has been made smaller in order to re-position the balance-wheel and balance-spring at the center of the movement. This operation lightened the dial and made it easier to read the hours. At the same time, the oscillating unit has been equipped with UlyChoc shock absorbers, entirely designed, developed and produced in-house. A classical system comprises five micro-elements: the block, the setting, the jewel, the counter-pivot and the spring. With simplification in mind and special focus on efficiency, Ulysse Nardin replaced three of these functions with a single one-piece component made of silicium. This solution avoids forces of play and friction, enabling the balance staff to be perfectly re-centered in the event of an impact.
Marine Diver Gold is powered by the self-winding caliber UN-26 and with a power reserve of 42 hours. In addition to its time functions, the date in an aperture at 6 o’clock and the power reserve in a counter at 12 o’clock. Is is available in 18 ct gold mounted on a rubber strap, which makes it a sports watch that can be worn for every occasion. Gold Diver is water resistance to 300 meters with the screw-locked crown and case-back. It also features a unidirectional rotating bezel.
