    Help with sbga029

    Hi guys

I've had my sbga029 for about a year. Only had the chance to look under a stereo microscope today. Found some marks on the hour hand and indices. Not sure if I'm supposed to see this under such macro zoom or is it a sign of corrosion taking place. Can anyone with a sbga029 check if his is normal?

    Appreciate your comments :)

Some silvery patch at the side of the hour hand, looks like corrosion to me.

The round indices are also not "mirror-polished" clean.

The 6 and 12 o'clock marker has even more of the blemishes. But it looks like a different material from the round indices.

Watch hasn't been abused, just a couple of swims at the pool.

    Hi

I have seen similar marks on a couple of my GS when looking through a high power loupe. And I do have both the SBGA 029/231.They are completely undetectable with the naked eye. I could look for more, but whatís the point if you know what I mean.

    In my opinion itís normal.

Iím sure others have more experience in this matter.

    Thanks Berni

I'm just curious since the macro shots of other GS models are flawless. Also if it's the case of water ingress or just the material degrading over time.

    Regards

Since they are finished by hand, Iíd say normal. I stopped looking at watches that close for a reason. No matter which brand, if you look hard enough, you will find flaws
Current: Seiko SBBN015, Apple Watch, G-Shock, Damasko DA37 (in the air), MKII Paradive (in the air)

Normal like the above comments. Avoid looking at the Grand Seiko that way or you will go crazy !

I forget who it was, but I think it was on the public forum that someone looked at multiple brands of watches under a microscope. Some very expensive pieces didn't look nearly as good as their price points might have indicated (Thread was called "under the microscope", IIRC).

I don't have a microscope but, under a loupe, my SBGA029 doesn't appear to have those types of markings, FWIW.

    Hi

I will have a better look at my GSís and report back.

How old is your watch? Is under gtee? On reflection there does look like there may be some sort of corrosion issue with your dial.

    This thread might be interesting:

Forum member Gerald_D's superb photos of Grand Seikos new and old show the incredible craftsmanship of the brand. For example, post #s 7 and 8 in the thread show GS wiping the floor with Rolex.

About a year or so, it should still have some warranty left...
