Limited Edition Run of 800 - 100 Pieces / Thoughts?

I think we so many models out there and relatively low demand, a LE in this quantity is not even close to a LE.

I think max needs to be 300.

It must make them sell otherwise why do it?
I think its the case of we forecast selling 800, so lets produce a batch of 800 in one go, creating production efficiencies and using it as marketing speil.

Whats your thoughts or I am being unfair?

I’ve mentioned a few times that when looking at the number of LEs Grand Seiko produces each year and their annual total output, many of the standard production models end up being more limited in nature than numerous LEs.

Why do people place so much emphasis on how “special” an LE should be. To me, as a consumer, it just means more models to choose from as it allows the company to make a small production number to sell without adding to their main catalogue and end up with a 100 regular production models. That would be hard to sustain for a luxury business. Unless it is really limited and special, like 50 pieces, made using some exotic material or requires a lot of actual craftsmanship by hand, does it matter? We get the choice of new models on a regular basis to buy from. That’s great in my book!

I don't care so much about the amount of editions in a particular run (although less is obviously more desirable to collectors).
Where Seiko and GS risks alienating its fanbase however is by reissuing LE models and diluting their rarity/value.
e.g SBGJ235 a "limited edition" which is practically identical to the SBGJ231.
Once a limited edition is over, that should be it-finished at least for a couple of decades. Otherwise its meaningless.

I agree wholeheartedly with kepa’s opinion on the subject.
I’m a collector of, rather than an investor in watches. I buy what I like, and couldn’t care less about units produced.

There’s a case to be made for larger productions runs if you like the watch and are as unlucky as me at snagging a L.E. But some of the runs are just vast and run into thousands of pieces - hardly limited IMO.

LE is nothing more than another wave of "marketing hype" by manufacturers to attract buyers, IMHO.

Get the watch you like, whatever it is, and enjoy it without the overdone BS......

Limited Edition is great if it really is Limited Edition. If they bring back the model with just a slight change and sell it as a regular watch then it defeats the purpose of the LE model. Limited Edition is as much a marketing term as "Entry Level" is. Many times that "Entry Level" is more than enough for a lot of people, but the marketing people want you to think you have an inferior model and want to sell you the more expensive one.
