    Another birth year watch.........

    Hi,

I was looking at that lovely 1968 Breitling that 'young' TimeOnTarget found.

I was born in 1956 and recently found a nice condition 1956 RAF Omega 6B/159, s/n 120. The s/n on the 30T2SC movement dates it to 1943. I fitted a simple leather strap to give it a 50s look............ I'd like to know what type of straps these were issued with.

I'm working on a 1943 Longines 6B/159, it came in 'original condition' so I'm giveing it a clean up ready for the next post.........

    cheers,

    -Flightpath

    Thanks CCCP,

it has had a service and a new crysyal fitted, I've given the case a touch up with a microfibre cloth......... a new strap does wonders too.
(I'd like to see one with an original strap to see what it was like).

The face has a few small marks, but I have to remind myself that it's over 50 years old.

(How did you go with your Waltham CDIA aircraft clock?)

    cheers,

    -Flightpath

I have a soft spot for Omegas as well as for Pil-Mil watches... this one is really classy with its hands and numerals

Talking about CDIAs I saw some auctions ending around 200$ but still didn't make a bid because it's a 60 year old clock and will need some servicing... this could cost even more than the clock itself .
While waiting I bought a cheap but nice russian  that's ticking on my desk.

    Cheers.

Yes, I love the look of the 1956 6B/159 watch, it has a simple elegance about it on the outside and a lovely movement that might have been up in a Spitfire or Lancaster on the inside....... what a romantic eh!?

I used to have a nice Russian clock on my desk. It was only a 3 day movement, and (like my Luftwaffe Junghans), it seemed to always have run down when I looked at it. I have a couple of US and british 8 day clocks around the room and it's easier to keep them going.

    Cheers,

Well, once in a while I do find something I like, but my budget is very small and I had to sell my Fortis Cosmonaut Chronograph to get this one. The Fortis was not getting any use and my interest is more in vintage military/pilot watches.
I will be soon be selling my (still under warranty) Speedmaster Pro to pay for other vintage watches and this 1956 Omega will become my 'dress watch'.

    cheers,
