    Dirty Dozen Style Mechanical Watch

    Hello guys,

I'm thinking about buy a field watch for everyday use. Until yesterday, I was decided to buy a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical (date version) but I realize it has long lugs and I'm not a Nato strap type of guy. I kind of give up of the idea.

    So, the hunting continues.

Suddenly I fell in love with the dirty dozen military style (wish small seconds). But strangely there are not many modern options of this style.

Is it possible that our Chinese friends did not have the idea to copy (ups, I mean.. make an homage =x) such an iconic model?

Maybe you guys can help me with that. So, I'm looking for:

    - mechanical/automatic movement
    - under 40 mm (38 or 36 mm)
    - Military style with small seconds
    - Around $ 500 tops

Sure, it can be swiss, german, american, or any other nationality, but it has to be "affordable".

Just for reference, the model in my mind is this modern Vertex M100 which is for sale for unbelievable 2,500 pounds!!

I think Timex made a homage with small seconds at one point long ago.

Despite the longs lugs, the 38mm Hamilton wears well, it is thin, highbeat, manual wind ETA and no Nato. Green or black dial, I think there is a no-date black dial version.

The Vertex is really nice, but the price is nuts.

I typed "sub-dial field-watch" into Google and the first thing that came up was this:

No idea where it is made and it is quartz, but definitely it is not a difficult style to find. Perhaps forget about searching for "dirty dozen" as that is an obscure watch-nerd term that is unlikely to be found in advertising.

tpacavalcante, as you mentioned that you don't necessarily require a Chinese watch, I've moved the thread to the Pil/Mil forum where there may be more experts.

...and as it happens, the following thread looks promising:

Might look at Victorinox as well for another suggestion.

I agree with the Yankee. If you can get to some place that stocks the Hamilton, then you would be well served to go try it on before deciding against it.

Some varieties come with 2-piece straps, and NATOs are definitely not required.
