Affordable mechanical watches that show time in digits?

I love mechanical watches, but I also appreciate the convenience of reading the time off a digital clock instead of deciphering an analog clock face.

Are there any affordable mechanical watches (eg. automatics) that show the time in digits (eg. using rotating wheels with printed numerals, or mechanical counters like in old odometers).

"Affordable" in this context means under $1500. Sadly the only ones I found cost more like $350,000.

I think they are called: jump hour watches. There are plenty and I have seen modern ones but, I cannot name them.

Most jump-hour watches I'm familiar with still have an analog minute hand. At least in the "affordable" price segment.

There are some vintage examples, Elgin made some, that were totally digital that could be had for $1500 or less, but you'll be looking at watches that are 60+ years old and without meaningful water resistance and parts availability may be problematic.

The IWC tribute to 150 years they released not long ago is awesome, but still out of your price range at about $20,000.

Christopher Ward has recently done a Jump(ing) hour watch, priced around $1,500. It's still just the hour only, the minute hand is analog.

Some of those might be available used. They're not quite as amazing as an A. Lange & Soehne Zeitwerk, but it's not $70-80,000++ either.

Sounds like you’re looking for a direct read, but just in case an automatic digital floats your boat here’s the Hamilton Pulsomatic. Around $1,000 used on a rubber strap. At 48mm wide it’s a beast, but how cool is this?

The Pulsomatic isn't a mechanical automatic movement. The timekeeping is quartz. There's a rotor that charges the battery/capacitor/power cell. Basically ETA's take on Seiko's Kinetic quartz movement.

Take a look at the Red Star offerings that Long Island Watch sell.

That's almost exactly what I had in mind. Just I was looking for something powered by a mainspring, not a battery. The red star appears to use 3 stepper motors to drive the 3 wheels independently. It would be a little more complex to drive everything with clockwork since the counting logic would have to be implemented with gearing.

The only affordable mechanical digital watches I'm aware of are vintage model from the 1970's. Most are chunky designs in keeping with what was popular. One of the better looking models was from Enicar. Several other companies made them.
