    My wife switched to an automatic when we had our first kid. It was the only practical way to hold a bottle for a crying baby and drive at the same time. That was back when you could still put a car seat in the front - they were more dangerous times!

    I remember as a kid, my dad driving the family to the beach and me and my brother playing in the floorboard of the truck or laying across the top of the seat next to the window and falling asleep. The warm sun on my back and the coolness of the window against my cheek!

    It's also possible that people didn't drive like entitled @$$holes back then though!

    I should add that back then it was about a six hour drive to the coast.

    I used to drive stick and smoke a pipe, which requires constant fiddling, while shooting videos just a outside Phila city limits.
