First quality watch- Any companies I'm missing for $300?

Hey all. I started out looking at MVMT, Vincero, and Cronometrics. Then I found this forum :)

With a budget of $300, I want to make sure I've considered my best options. I've spent hours looking through threads on here, and the styles I've narrowed it down to are:

    Citizen Promaster
    Seiko SKX007
    Orient Mako/Sun and Moon 2

    Then I kept looking...
Dan Henry (but is the value there?)
    Aevum Advance
Helm (I LOVE their designs but they're all sold out??)
    Straton Daily Driver (love it)
    Deep Blue Master 1000

I'd like at least 42" across, and prefer brushed look over polished if silver/steel/metal. Thanks in advance for any suggestions I may have overlooked in this price range.

I think you have a good list going. Personally I had a bad experience with Deep blue and wouldn’t recommend them (had to send a watch back twice for the threads on the crown stripping, then they sent me a brand new watch with multiple QC issues). I also think the SKX is overhyped and under spec’d, but that is just my opinion. It of course has lots of fans around here.

I would check out the “just one more watch” YouTube channel. He focuses on the affordable end of the watch spectrum and has several videos on great watches at $300 and under. Lots of great micro brands in that range. Richard LeGrand (silly name I know) has the new version of there Odyssea on pre-order now. Right now they are listed for $339 but I would bet they will do a Black Friday deal as I have seen them do several sales in the last year

EDIT: whoops the Richard LeGrand is only 40mm, so a bit smaller than your preference. Like I said, lots more on the JOMW YouTube channel

Dan Henry are excellent quartz watches in my experience with proven Japanese movements.

Dan Henry are excellent value for the price. The 1964 Gran Turisimo is one of my favourites in my collection, and I've owned stuff like Omega, Sinn, Grand Seiko. I'm not saying it's as good or fancy as those... but I personally like it more than most. Their (his?*) attention to detail is fantastic.

    * Unlike the other "Firstname Lastname" brands (e.g. Filipo Lorreti, Daniel Wellington, etc) Dan Henry seems to be a real person and well known collector of vintage watches, using his collection as reference for his brand.

I suggest looking at some Glycine models. I think their Combat Sub in particular (available in 42mm and larger) is one of the best value options around. Swiss Made, automatics, and can be found under $300 at Costco and in the low 300s if you make an offer to watchgooroo on eBay (mine was $325 a year ago). It's a much better option than the SKX, which I also have.

Everything is smaller than OP's preference of 42 inches across ;)

FYI Chinese brand San Martin (aka Sharkey / Heimdallr) has an SKX007 with better specs than the original:
    - 316L steel case
    - NH36A movt (=hacking/hand-winding)
    - sapphire crystal
    - C3 SuperLuminova lume
    - ceramic bezel insert
    - jubilee bracelet w/ solid end-links

Their QA is on the higher side for a China-based brand, lots of happy customers here in WUS.

The kicker? Their better-speced SKX is half the price of the original...

This guy opened a $300 thread a few hours before you, might find some ideas there: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/fi...0-5075643.html
