Help find K his 'one watch'

I have a friend called K. He is not a watch guy but always wears a watch. For the last 10 years it has been the same Citizen dive watch but now it is not keeping time so well and rather than get it serviced he's ready for something new. He mentioned this in the pub last night and I said I would give him some options, I love stuff like this. I thought I'd post the request on here so we could all join in!

    A bit about K.
Middle-aged, a real outdoors, country kind of guy. Fixing WWII vehicles, building stuff, trekking, rock climbing you get the picture. His work is as an engineer but that might find him dangling off a bridge, or diving, or welding battleships but he's also the boss so has to dig out a suit from time to time. And he needs one watch on his wrist for all of this.

He doesn't want to spend more than £200 (US$250), would prefer an automatic (he is an engineer after all) but not averse to quartz. He would like a day/date complication. Size wise I'm guessing 38-42mm range. He loves military stuff so a military connection might interest him.

Can we find K his perfect watch?

This is what I can think on top my head.

Orient Defender - 42mm, field watch, dressy, automatic, no hacking.

Orient Mako II in bracelet can be had for around £150, then he can get a G-Shock DW-5600 with the rest of his budget.

Orient Kamasu is within $15 to $20 of his budget. It is waterproof and more robust with the sapphire crystal and can dress up with a suit when needed.

Since a Citizen dive watch has been all he's needed for 10 years, it would seem that another dive watch could fit his needs. In that case, a Seiko SKX can fit in that budget.

If he wants a change from a diver and wants to go with a more military theme, perhaps one of the Hamilton field watches would work.

I know that you specified an auto for him but have a look at a G Shock as they have so much to offer except the auto bit.

If your friend has to go diving as part of his job, and wants only one watch to also wear with a suit, then I don't think there are many other options than a diver (especially if he's keen on wearing an auto). There are several good offerings in this range, but it's hard to beat the SKX in terms of reliability, durability and historical significance. If you want something less predictable then I'd either go with a citizen NYxxxx diver or maybe one of those really nice eco-drive tough titanium field watches with 200m water resistance. Those should both be durable and versatile enough to do anything and can be found within (or very close to) budget.

If he's not a watch guy per se then I don't know how he'd feel about orient (albeit they produce great watches.) And even for a really rugged guy, I think a G shock with a suit isn't quite a great look.

An SKX was my first thought. But, if he's interested in an SKX, I'd have him try on a turtle first. They wear a little bigger than an SKX, but not as much as you'd think. And they're arguably more watch. Several color combinations. And a good military (movie) connection.

Expedition Sierra sounds up his alley. https://www.amazon.com/Timex-TW4B016...s%2C267&sr=8-2 Checks most of his boxes except not being an automatic. or the Timex militaryhttps://www.timex.com/timex-x-todd-snyder-military-inspired-40mm-fabric-strap-watch/Timex-x-Todd-Snyder-Military-Inspired-40mm-Fabric-Strap-Watch.html?dwvar_Timex-x-Todd-Snyder-Military-Inspired-40mm-Fabric-Strap-Watch_color=Silver-Tone-Green-Black&cgid=men-military-inspired#start=1
