Help Me Help a Friend Find a New Watch

A friend of mine is looking for a new watch and below are the general criteria he gave me; he is not a WIS by any measure and his current watches consist of a Timex Waterbury and an Apple watch. I have considered Citizen, Bulova, Victorinox, Tissot, and a few other brands, but am curious what the community thinks would be a good option. Appreciate any assistance.

$200 or less (purchasing brand new)
Quartz or solar powered (no mechanical)
    40-45 mm
    no Seiko (what?!?!?!??)
no Timex (already has the one and wants a different brand)
    black dial
something that works in professional and casual setting - mostly intended for work
no metal band (prefers leather straps and wants black leather strap - I know this can be replaced, but trying to avoid watches that come with metal bands)
no chronograph function - prefers simple functions (day and/or date window not necessary)
Numerals v. markers is not important

Maybe Castle Corbel Ultra Black. It has stainless steel 42mm case, sapphire crystal, Miyota quartz movement and 22mm leather strap with quick release spring bars.

My initial thoughts would be Citizen, an EcoDrive maybe?

Don't get the No Seiko bit, but everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I would love to know why he rules out the maker of some of the best value, IMHO, watches in the World.

Going left field, maybe he would be enticed by a Bulova like this one I have :

At list price it blows the budget but shop around, I got this for $79.99, with the incredible Precisionist movement this keeps time to within 10 secs per year! Which is incredibly accurate. Also comes in Blue dial and with Gold accents if I recall correctly, but I wanted a Black Dial watch, the photo does not do it justice as the Black is very non reflective so is hard to photograph. But you get the incredible Slow Sweep Second Hand that moves imperceptibly at 16 beats per second and is mesmerising!

    Best regards,

His selection criteria does not put him in a hard-to-find niche. He may feel overwhelmed by the volume of choices. Just reassure him that most he finds in department stores, on Amazon, etc. with a stainless steel case will be adequate for the job.

Honestly, I would just educate him a bit on the parameters at that price point: case metal, lume or no lume, water resistance, crystal material, quartz vs. solar, etc.

then tell him to look around, find a handful he likes, then come to you to share your WIS-knowledge on value, workmanship, history, likely hardiness, etc. on the short-list to help him make his final decision.

No Seiko!!!!! In that case I’d steer him towards and Eco-Drive if I could.

I was able to show him one Seiko he didn't mind (see below), but is more of a field watch style.

How firm is the budget? A 40mm Hamilton Khaki Quartz goes for around $250 USD on the gray market. Maybe lower with patience and bargain hunting.
