Official Huygens Sea Sapphire/Sea Onyx Thread

    The brand
Our brand is named after Christiaan Huygens who was a prominent Dutch astronomer, physicist, probabilist and horologist who lived in the 17th century. Huygens was a leading scientist of his time. His work included early telescopic studies of the rings of Saturn and the discovery of its moon Titan. He also invented the pendulum clock in 1656 and other investigations in timekeeping such as the balance spring. Huygens’ greatest invention the pendulum clock was a major breakthrough in timekeeping as it improved the accuracy of clocks available at the time considerably.

    Introduction
Project Sea Sapphire started as a sketch made on a holiday vacation in February 2014. Since then it has been growing from just a drawing to a genuine and fully worked out watch design. This all with the help of you, the ever enthusiastic but very critical Watchuseek community. The Sea Sapphire, a dive watch named after its sharp angular shapes and deep blue color, has become a sophisticated design, inpired by great dive watches from the past as well as the present, e.g. the Omega Shom, SeaMaster 300 and the Panerai Luminor to name a few.

The Sea Sapphire encompasses various vintage elements, such as the anti-reflective double domed sapphire crystal which is shaped like an oldschool acrylic crystal, but also the substantial boxy stainless steel case and the large guard-less screwdown crown reminiscent of watches from the past. Moreover it features an unique sunburst sandwich dial that refracts the light in a spectrum of blue colors. This classy and refined look is ultimately complimented by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal bezel insert. On the other hand, the brushed stainless steel case with it’s hidden lugs does make the watch look modern, robust and tool-like, hereby it combines the several design elements from the past and present in order to make the Sea Sapphire an unique watch.

Always nice to see a new watch brand in the making.

The design looks clean, but also a bit chunky. How thick is the bezel?

Good luck in accomplishing your goals and keep us posted.

Very nice design! I like the case with the wider caseback the best.

I'm a sucker for blue dials, so I'd leave that alone. However, the hands look a little small for that dial. I'd use a little wider hands, and make sure the minute and seconds hands reach all the way to the minute marks on the chapter ring.

    Good luck!

Great dial and bezel although but i'm not a fan hooded lugs. Also maybe break up the text. Sea Sapphire or a logo on the top half of the dial?Good Luck!

My suggestion is to make the case curve somewhat to fit the wrist better. Otherwise I like it.
