Please help me choose a rugged, indestructible watch for <$100

    Hi,
I'm planning on doing a lot of hiking and outdoorsy stuff this summer and I'm looking for a good watch that can handle getting smashed into rocks and trees, getting wet, etc...

Of course, my first inclination is to get a Casio G-Shock and I am not opposed to that at all, but they have so many models that I don't even know where to start looking. Also, for this watch I don't care about any complications and it doesn't matter to me whether the display is digital or analog. Just looking for a decent looking, low priced but durable, beater. 42-46mm.

    Thanks in advance.

Your intuition tells you right. Pick the g-shock that looks best and pull the trigger. They fit all your listes needs.

If you want help picking between the different G-Shock models, you might want to repost your question in the G-Shock forum. Those guys have a lot more knowledge on the specifics of the different models than most of us Affordables folks do.
    Cheers,

Thanks guys. I'll try the G-Shock forum. I didn't even know one existed on this site

I suppose one of the Timex Ironman "Shock" models would be a good choice too, and they tend to be cheaper than even the cheapest (unused) G-shocks.

Besides G-Shocks, there are many other Casio's that are more than tough enough for the outdoors. For hiking, canoeing and camping, I prefer the SGW-100B above my G-Shocks. It has the same water resistance as the G-Shocks, 200m, adds a thermometer and compass, larger display and I like its outdoorsy looks.

I've had problems reading digital watches like the G-Shock. I need glasses to read and all digi's I've tried the numbers are too small. This is why I went with the Timex Rugged field because it is analog and I can see the hands without my glasses.

Don't know if this is a problem with you, but just a thought. Example below...from Amazon.
