Watch for wife ;-) under $100!

    Hello all!

I thought haven't seen a similar thread for what I'm looking for but I don't seem to find it now after more than one hour searching. So, please excuse me if there is a similar thread in here.

I'm looking for a watch for my wife and I'd appreciate your suggestions in this regard. These are my requirements in order of importance. I may add more as they come to mind:

    - No more than $100 (that's why I'm posting in this F71 .
    - Quartz preferable (Eco-drive just acceptable).
    - Water resistance to at least (the very minimum) 165f/50m/5ATM/5BAR, but the more the merrier (preferable 100m-200m or more, if still in budget). It HAS TO be REALLY water resistant.
    - Case made of metal (NO plastic or resin or wood or similar); ALL stainless steel preferable; aluminum or bronze or silver acceptable (titanium would likely be above budget and so will gold).
    - Case diameter between 30-36 mm (not too small, not too big for her; preferably closer to 36mm).
    - Case thickness must be less than 14mm (the thinner the better).
    - Strap/band made of silicone (preferable) or rubber. A non-metal band/strap. It HAS TO be WATERPROOF. Not nylon as it traps the water between the band and the skin (it stays wet on the wrist).

So you can see I'm looking for nothing dressy but rather very casual or better sporty but feminine enough. I have looked at some Invictas but all have bracelet.

What I have in mind is the Momentum Women's 1M-DV01O1B M1 Rubber Watch (photo courtesy of the Internet

However, I have read several customer reviews where they complained about the face size being too small (one thing is the case size and other one is the actual face size inside the case, you know). Some also complain about the rubber band being too stiff and/or too small (my wife has close to 7" diameter wrist). St. Moritz Momentum claims his watch "to have the thinnest possible case in a 20ATM dive watch", which is a big plus for me.

Just checking with you folks to see if there is something similar or better at this price range before I pull the trigger on the one pictured above.

I thank you in advance for your suggestions. All are welcome!

I wouldn't be too hung up on what band/bracelet comes with the watch. They're easily swapped out for whatever silicone band your wife prefers.
Having said that, can't really go wrong with this for under 16 bucks.

    Hello Cairoanan:

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I'll definitively consider finding suitable silicone straps to swap them out. But the watch you suggest has a 39mm case diameter; I'm trying not to go over 36mm, if possible.

Hopefully people will keep feeding in this thread. Otherwise, I'd assume there is no more or better choices in this price range with the characteristics outlined before.

    Thank you all in advance.

My wife has a Momentum dive watch and it's been really nice. I've since bought her a small Seiko diver to use she still likes the Momentum. We now have two Momentums because I liked them so much I bought me one. Seems like a good company.

Here are a couple I found. The Orient is an automatic and a little over budget but hey nothing's to good for the wife right!

This one (above) is very similar to the one I pasted in my OP, if not the same. Glad to hear that!

I actually bought her the red/orange one, and I was about to buy the collection (as you did) because I like them a lot, but she wasn't giving it much wrist time at all. On top of that, their faces are real scratch magnets, one of the worse I have seen. Those are some of the reasons I'm steering way from acrylic-face 43mm-resin cases for her. And the g-shocks? I have a couple of different ones, but she wouldn't even look at them for herself.

    Thanks for suggesting and sharing!

BTW: I LOVE the straps on your Casios... Let me know when you swap the strap on the yellow one with the yellow inner ring. I'll love to see it.

The Orient? Forget it. Not only because it's 50% over budget but more importantly because she wouldn't wear a watch that she'd have to set up every time she picks it up after a couple of days not wearing it; I will! So, mechanics/automatics are not for her.

The Momentum Storm II is interesting. Again, it seems to me that brand is the only one offering most of specs I'm looking for at this time. There is one thing that I'd have to double check carefully: the case diameter. The one you posted indicates 36mm case size which is the size I'm looking for. However, when I check that same watch in Amazon, their specs reads 30mm case size. I know, it's Amazon..

I think I'm going to kindly ask the owners if they wouldn't mind to actually measure the ladies Momentum in their possession to tell me what its actual case diameter is.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Check out Alba field watches. They are excellent quality, titanium, quartz, and about 36mm. Just buy 18mm rubber strap and you're set.

They are water resistant to 200m.

I paid for mine just over $70 on Amazon.

This is mine with full lume dial APBT209

Or go more traditional way with black dial. Alba APBT211(pic from internet)

These ones will definitively be taken into consideration for their specs as they tick most of the boxes (thanks!). However, they are not available in Canada and therefore I'll have to factor in the exchange rate (not good at this time), S&H plus custom duty (no idea how much the custom duty will be for importing it into Canada)?
