Why modern Affordable Chronographs are so tacky?

    Personally I donít get why.

Looking back at affordable chronograph designs from the late 80ís there were really some nice options. Just look at Seikoís 7A28 and 7A38 movement series, the Panda, the Pogues or Pulsarís Military Chronos or even Citizenís.

Literally there were so many good designs that have been totally lost nowadays. And Iím talking about both quartz and automatics.

Today what you most often get when you spend 200-300$ for a chrono is:

    - a 44+mm beast case
    - an hard to read, busy dial
    - an integrated bracelet (!!!)
    - a very tacky polished finish
    - roman numbers here and there
    - hands painted in random colors

If you instead have some nice, readily available chronos as suggestion around the 200-300$ mark please post them!

I love my Nezumi Voiture 1st Gen black and current Corbeau in Gray. Meca quartz and adore the case and lugs. My only slight negative regarding the Voiture is that the hands get lost in the dial for my old eyes.

Both3 are a little over 300usd iirc but you can probably get on on the secondary market for a bit cheaper.

    Nezumi indeed!

Excellent choice, didnít think about it at first. They really make nice looking watches and yours is no exception.

I personally love the look of the Courbeau but, as you pointed out, itís a tad over the budget being 390$ for EU customers. The Voiture is even 410$. Both excluding shipping.

Absolutely agree. The Dan Henry designs are an anomaly in a sea of tacky designs.

These EMG chronos are $400, but they are true mechanical watches (Seagull movement)

A cheaper alternative is this Chinese brand FOD (I think itís affiliated to the San Martin brand), at around $250 using the same Seagull movement.

How about Undone? Models below range from $265-$375. They even have a customizer where you can choose your case, dial, hands and strap.

Check out the upcoming Maen chronographs. You might like their 38mm size.

[Edit] Sorry I just noticed your price range. These have Swiss movements and are out of your range.
