    Re: Facebook?

I still think i's a great way to keep up with people from my past; particularly those who live far away. I live in the Kansas City area now, but I still have a lot of friends in the Atlanta area from high school and college. It's nice to see pictures of the dinner or their kids, "chat" with them, etc. No, it isn't of critical importance. You could argue that if you haven't spoken with someone in 25 or 30 years he isn't a true friend anyway. But I still enjoy the opportunity to connect with old friends, join groups with similar interests, etc.

If you're paranoid about data mining and people monitoring your every move, Facebook is the least of your concerns. Everything you're afraid of Facebook doing is already being done by someone else any time you do something on your smart phone. But I have plenty of friends and relatives who aren't on Facebook for various reasons. And I respect their rights and choices, too.

I've had some great opportunities to run into old friends in random locations around the country. (Like a truck stop in the middle of Nebraska) Because we both happened to be traveling and mentioned it on FB. Great for keeping up those long term friend connections after we move far away.
