    Off to see The Martian

I think, probably, the most appropriate watch to see it with!

Agreed. I wrote a critique a week ago or so (in french). I was pretty impress by the tone of the movie that defies most of the genre clichés : no bleak future, no humanity on the brink of extinction and a very positive / optimist tone. Loved it.
    Plus it's very funny !

I agree. If I had not read the book before hand I would have expected it to be like Gravity and probably would not have gone to see it. Don't get me wrong, Gravity is an amazing film but it is very stressful and draining to watch - at least I found it so!
The Martian was the opposite and I think the movie was a lot better than the book.

Haven't read the book yet. They gave it to me to the press screening though. Maybe if I get to the bottom of my giant pile of books to read, I'll give it a go. In the mean time... I simply enjoyed the movie - I like going to movies without knowing too much (or if at all possible, without knowing anything about it).
Now, I really want to see the next Ridley Scott.

It's a great book! Very interesting how the book came about in the first place, it was an online collection of short story style entries to begin with.
Haven't seen the movie yet but looking forward to it!

Good movie, but the book's details (and all that math) highlighted for me just how quickly I would have died in that situation.

The movie is excellent although they did cut out a bunch of stuff.

Not just the science parts also a bunch of tragic situations that would've made the movie more tedious, stressful and longer.

I do recommend reading the book before going to see it or if you already saw it please please pick up the book it'll complement the movie so much.

Matt Damon's portrayal of Mark Watney was spot on personally I don't think anybody else could've played that part.

Loved Damon's smart ass comments and corrosive sarcasm just like the book.

I found the movie ending to be extremely crappy though compared to the book.
