Ball Engineer Master II Skindiver opinions?

All, I’m considering the above piece and believe I can get one new for approximately $1,850. What are you’d thoughts on this piece generally and at this price specifically?

Additionally, any others you’d recommend over it in the sub $2k range?

if you were looking at a model from the hydrocarbon series, my answer would be different, but, to the skin diver, I'd still prefer the longines

Ball makes fine watches. The style is subjective. If you like it, it is wonderful. Buy used and save $$$.

If only we had some sort of visual aid.......

I second the motion on the Hydroconquest. Hard to go wrong there. If you're not averse to smaller brands, Monta Oceanking is also a good option:

Ball definitely makes great looking and interesting watches.

However, after 12 years or so the tritium tubes shall have lost a substantial part of its power. You are then at the mercy of Ball for replacing the tubes which may not be that cheap. I have never heard of independent watchmakers offering that speciality service.

Now you may think 12 years down the road is a long time. Yes it is but if you are planning to sell it one day you may have a hard time finding a buyer (if I would buy a 10 year old Ball I would have to factor in the price of a tritium tube replacement job).

I love the design of the Ball, overall, except for that white date wheel under the black dial, considering where they put the date window, and the 44mm case size.

For $200-$300 less, I'd rather have a used Sinn 857.

I personally felt that Rolex mash (Sub + Exp I) dial design is a bit strange.

Agreed. Longines quality is impressive on the wrist...
