    First dive watch: Your recommendation?

Hello! I’ve always been a reader on WUS, but decided to start posting since my move to watch enthusiast the past 2 or so years. I’m currently living in Japan and I’ve built up a collection of 5 watches in that time. Currently I own:

    - Citizen Nighthawk (JDM All-black)
    - Seiko SARB035
    - Hamilton Khaki E.T.O
    - Hamilton Viewmatic Open Heart

I’m looking to add a diver to this modest collection and narrowed my choices to the list below in order from cheapest to most expensive.

    - Seiko mini-turtle (black or Pepsi)
    - Steinhart Ocean One 39 Ceramic Black
    - Steinhart Ocean GMT 39 Premium (Batman)
    - Oris Divers 65 (retro with tropical rubber)

If anyone on the forum has experience with the above models, or if you have any advice for a novice such as myself - I would love to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your feedback and I look forward to being more involved in this great community.

You cannot go wrong with any of your 4 choices. The Oris rises to the top. Have mine on leather now, as it came on a textile strap.

The divers 65 is a real nice watch and a step above the others you list IMHO, id get that!

Also, might want to consider an Oris Aquis. Many different sizes and styles. A very reputable divers watch.

I like that Oris posted by Yankeeexpress. She looks pretty sweet.

Agreed no bad choice, seems like you could get two of the first three or the Oris...

I'd go with an original over a facsimile - Oris D65 or turtle.

Oris is a great watch and brand indeed. If you love that design and want a well known Swiss brand's halo then definately go for it. But if you are looking for good value/quality ratio then the bigcrown isn't it, at least not to me. A print dial, no bracelet, generic movement, with that price tag.......

    Try looking at micros.

If you want Rolex/Omega type of quality and worksmanship I'd recommand either Monta or Ginault. You can't go wrong with either especially with Ginault's ORII it's basically bullet proof.

If you are looking to spend a little less, then Halios, or Raven. Halios may be a bit hard to get, but Raven you can get one on sale for $400 plus. I'd stay away from Steinhart, Squale and such.... to me they are cheap quality watches....

There are so many styles of divers out there, and your list doesn't, from what I can gather anyway, suggest what it is you're looking for. Such s broad, one ended question will get you wide range everyone's personal favorites.

Even one of the Ginault boys showed up. See what I mean? ;) There goes the neighborhood! Next the Scurfa boys will jump in, and then you'll need to start a new thread.

What are things are YOU looking for?

Style, size, price range? Colors? Tool watch? So called "dress" diver? Vintage style?

    Thoughts:
    - There are hundreds of Sub homages ... like Steinhart
    - Micro? Branded? Homage to something?
    - The mini-turtle is not a turtle at all ...
    - The Oris is a very nice vintage style diver from a decent brand ... but VAST difference in options in that price range vs the "mini" Seiko price point
    - ... and style

Since you're based in Japan I'd probably go for some nice JDM Seiko model :).
