looking for recommendations on vintage divers

    Hi happy people,

New to the forum and I'm looking for tips on vintage divers. I seem to like the look of Blancpain FF/70s Omega seamaster 300 but i cannot afford either, currently.

In a perfect world the piece is 40mm +/-1mm, has a black dial, bakelite bezel and skin diver-esque look. My budget is around €2000.

    I'm grateful for any tips.

    Regards

Hello and welcome to the boards! Vintage pieces are a great way to get into collecting, usually you can find some skin divers for very reasonable prices. Things to consider:

Many divers were a 36-37mm size when they were at their peak in the 60's-70's

Water resistance is going to be negligible at best without a complete overhaul

Parts can be hard to come by because of this there are a lot of pieced together items, sometimes known at Frankenwatches

There are a lot of single jewel or metal pin movements that you may be hard pressed to find someone to repair or work on

That being said, there's still a treasure trove of awesome stuff out there. You may even want to consider a reissue of a vintage piece, like the Doxa 200 sub...

I’d start gently. Perhaps head on over to the Seiko forum to see one or two.

    Does this count? SKX031.
39mm, screwdown crown, 100M WR. Bezel is bi-directional but has good resistance and I never had issues with mine being bumped and I put it through its paces.

Not sure if it counts as vintage yet either. Apologies in advance if it doesn't meet the criteria. While I am here could someone enlighten me on skin diver characteristics?

I'd start and have a look around at vintage Squale, Certina, Seiko, Super Compressor, Jenny / O&W Caribbean. Many more cool vintage dive watches to be discovered but those are to be had within that budget usually and are classic, collectible and still awesome pieces.

Plus random pic of the internets:
