Preview Shot Of The Bathys Automatic With New Dial And Custom Crown!

John tells me the photo REALLY doesn't do this fantastic new sunburst ruthenium-grey dial justice because you have to see it in person and need two eyes to get the true sunburst effect.

He also said that the mold-maker got the new custom crown spot one, right down to the rounded profile he wanted. He says this new crown makes the watch VERY comfortable to wear!

    Enjoy! B-)

    2 's UP!

i'm really liking the fact that John is taking the time to get all the details right. whereas many others would be tempted to cut corners and make compromises (and settle for less) to get the watches to market, it's great to see that these watches are turning out true to his design and concept.

Very nice, is there a shot of the back of the watch?

If there is, I don't have it. :-D

In any case, other than now being made of Ti, it should be identical to the existing case backs. B-)

Hope no one minds me asking, I see the Bathys it's always being talked about hear, and people who buy it seam to like it a lot, yet it's not a true diver watch as such, but rather a water resistant watch, so what makes it so special? I just curious so please don't shoot me. :-X

    Two questions for you.

    1. What makes any watch "special?" For me, the Bathys is special because it is imminently legible and it has a unique design that appeals to me. In this, it appears I'm not alone.

    2. Must a watch be a "true dive watch" for you to buy and enjoy it? For the record, John Patterson, owner/founder of Bathys Hawaii, is a surfer.

Steve I think Sharkhunter's question was why a watch that isn't really a dive watch, per se, is discussed so much on a dive watch forum. I've always had the same question myself, ever since John started talking about his line of watches here.

There's certainly nothing wrong with discussing "marine capable" watches here. In fact there are several watches discussed here in the past that, by the standard, aren't truely dive watches. Some discussed here are in the historic dive watch category, such as Panerai which, not counting the Submersible, couldn't be currently classified as a dive watch according to the standard.

I reckon, in the end, any watch a diver wears to dive with is a dive watch to him or her, but I do think we need to be careful what we call a "dive watch", especially since there are international standards that describe them.
    Cheers,
    Bruce
